#TodayInHistory: October 12, 1886 – Jose Rizal sent his brother Paciano a Tagalog translation of Wilhelm Tell, it was about a folk hero and expert marksman who assassinated the tyrannical Gessler. #WikiPinoy of the Day: Cayetano Arellano (b. March 2, 1847– d. December 23, 1920) was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines under the American Civil Government. He was Chief Justice from 1901 until his retirement on April 12, 1920, making him the longest serving Chief Justice.
Born in Orion, Bataan, he obtained a degree in philosophy from the University of Santo Tomas in 1862. During the Spanish regime, he was appointed Magistrado Suplente of the Audiencia Tribunal de Manila. He was a World War II general, a Bataan hero and the first Filipino to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point (class of 1914). He served as brigadier general and became the top–ranking Filipino under General Douglas MacArthur. He was tasked with the defense of Southern Luzon when the Philippine Army was incorporated into the American Forces on July 16, 1941.

He returned to the Philippines shortly after the start of the revolution. He was the first Filipino professional to join the ranks of the revolutionaries. He built defenses in Bacoor, Binakayan, Cavite Viejo, Munting-ilog, Silang, Dasmariñas, Imus, Salitran, Lumang-bayan, and Noveleta as protection from the attacks of the Spaniards. #TodayInHistory: December 20, 1987 – MV Doña Paz sank after colliding with the oil tanker MT Vector in the Tablas Strait, between the islands of Mindoro and Marinduque. More than 4,300 people were killed. A total of 26 passengers and crew survived. The passenger ferry was traveling from Tacloban City in Leyte island to Manila.
#TodayInHistory: December 20, 1896 – The Supreme Government of Peru appointed Filipino composer Jose Libornio y Sabas as "Director General de las Bandas de Musicos del Ejercito". Disguising himself as a native of Cartagena, Spain, Libornio was considered a hero in Peru after producing many different musical compositions that included the South American country's National Army March and a march dedicated to the Peruvian general.
#TodayInHistory: December 20, 1863 – Spain promulgated an educational decree (Educational Decree of 1863) to reform the educational system in the Philippines. It liberalized access to education. It provided for the establishment of at least one primary school for boys and girls in each town under the responsibility of the municipal government. Students were required to study the Christian doctrine, values and history as well as reading and writing in Spanish, mathematics, agriculture, etiquette, singing, world geography, and Spanish history. Girls were also taught sewing.

She joined the women's chapter of the Katipunan where she met her husband Jose Salvador Natividad. Both became involved in various battles against the Spaniards. Following the truce of the Pact of Biak-na-Bato, Delfina and Jose joined the resulting self-exile of revolutionary leaders in Hong Kong. Delfina helped Marcella Agoncillo sew the Philippine flag that will be unfurled on June 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite.
#TodayInHistory: December 15, 1660 – Andres Malong, the maestro de campo of Binalatongan, now San Carlos City, Pangasinan led the people in Pangasinan to take up arms against the Spaniards. His revolt targeted only the colonial government officials.
