Vajpayee, Indira
Beyond the din of a bitterly contested electoral battle between Mulayam Singh and Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, two leaders still evoke great respect and affection among the people of Uttar Pradesh — their names cropping up, unbidden, in many a conversation throughout our journey across large swathes of the state.
The first is Indira Gandhi, who is remembered most fondly by the rural poor to this day. The second is Atal Bihari Vajpayee whose appeal transcends caste, age and religion.
But if the nostalgia for Indira Gandhi is helping her grandson’s Mission UP in no small measure, the memory of Vajpayee is having the opposite effect on the BJP. Far from enhancing the fortunes of the party, Vajpayee is remembered with a sigh of regret, his absence highlighting the “directionless and leaderless” state of the BJP.
Mohibullah Abbasi, a retired government servant who lives in a quiet leafy colony in Lucknow, is no supporter of the BJP. But that has not diminished his respect for Vajpayee who was once his MP. “Jaise ruh nikal jaaye aur sirf body rahe jaaye, Vajpayee ke jaane ke baad, BJP mein kuch raha hi nahin (just as a body turns lifeless after the soul departs, without Vajpayee the BJP has been reduced to nothing).”
Abbasi may have never voted for the BJP, but his sentiments are echoed — albeit less poetically — by young Amit Gupta at Fatehganj near Bareilly. “Jabse Atal Bihari Vajpayee rajneeti chhoden, tabse BJP UP mein down hi hoti gayi (ever since Vajpayee quit politics, the BJP has been going downhill in UP).”
His father, once a staunch supporter of the BJP, adds: “Jhoote vaade karte hain, isliye bhi BJP bahut ghat gayi hai (the BJP has shrunk also because it makes false promises).” At one time, all the Brahmins, Thakurs and Vaish (traders) firmly backed the party. Now the BJP cannot count on a single one of them, Gupta says.
Hundreds of miles from Bareilly, we hear the same thing in Akbarpur.
Naveen Tripathi is quite certain that the BJP will poll less than even an Independent despite the fact that the BJP alone has fielded a Brahmin candidate and there is a substantial number of Brahmins in the constituency.
“What does the BJP have to offer today? What does it stand for? Why should we take it seriously anymore? It is a party that promises something to come to power and on getting power turns its back on the promise,” he says, referring to the Ram Mandir agenda which propelled the BJP to power in UP and was then abandoned.
But even after the mandir fiasco, BJP attracted voters because of Vajpayee, Tripathi feels. “A real leader draws people, gives a sense of hope and direction. BJP has no such leader today.”
Vajpayee was not just about charisma and oratory; the grid of “superfast” national highways is his lasting legacy. “It takes just two-and-a-half hours to reach Lucknow from Akbarpur, and that is thanks to Vajpayee’s vision,” Tripathi insists.
At a roadside corner on the outskirts of Sitapur, Suman Shukla sells gol gappas. He is too young to remember the Vajpayee era but like most people of Uttar Pradesh, he breathes politics. In the Sitapur seat, the BJP’s Saket Mishra is quite popular but in Uttar Pradesh as a whole, the BJP is on the decline, he says.
The Congress will form a government here sooner or later but the BJP has no chance — “unke paas koyi neta hi nahin hai (they don’t have any leader)”, oblivious to the fact that the BJP boasts of a battery of leaders no party can match. None of them, he indicates, can hold a candle to Vajpayee in terms of mass appeal — at least in Uttar Pradesh.
Shukla tries to recall the name of the BJP leader who recently addressed a rally at Sitapur and after some time... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/10029

@DianaEck My take on Harvard's unilateral action that does not behove an institution of its stature. Dr Subramaniam Swamy, a Former Minister of Commerce and Justice, Government of India, was stating his own views with which one could agree or disagree which an Indian newspaper thought fit to publish. No censure was forthcoming from the Indian establishment or from the Muslim community which was supposedly “hurt” with his writing. To the best of one’s knowledge no one has joined issue with Dr. Swamy in any Indian newspaper of repute on the subject excepting some expressing opprobrium alone at what he had written. By scrapping the two courses he has been teaching from 1963 onwards at Harvard the famed University’s Faculty Council has exposed its intolerant attitude towards freedom of speech exclusively at the behest of some committed Left leaning enthusiasts. Dr Swamy’s views did not influence the Government of India to take up his suggestion for implementation nor was it thrown open for a debate. It was a matter purely confined to the territory of India and had nothing to do with Harvard University or the United States of America. Samuel Huntington a Harvard don had correctly written quite succinctly on his views concerning his demographic shift apprehensions in the U.S. and world order. Was he banned by Harvard?
HOW TO END SHIA SUNNI FEUDS: Shias should openly acknowledge Imam Ali & his descendant Imams as Prophets & declare themselves as a distinctive separate Umma (people) from Sunnis and just call themselves Shias, not Muslims.
The Shia believe Imam Ali & his descendant Imams were sinless, similar to prophets. They believe the Imams have a divine mission to rule the Muslims and be God's representative on Earth. They believe Imams receive divine revelations, similar to prophets. The Shia believe their Imams have extra-ordinary abilities and attributes. The Imams have full knowledge of the past, present and the future. Read full details: http://www.discoveringislam.org/sunnis_vs_shia.htm
Barry Whiteley, British and proud of it!
Airline Lunches
I put my carry-on in the luggage
compartment and sat down in my
assigned seat.
It was going to be a long flight from Gatwick.
'I'm glad I have a good book to read
Perhaps I will get a short sleep,' I thought.
Just before take-off, a line of British Army Youngsters
came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats,
totally surrounding me.
I decided to start a conversation.
'Where are you blokes headed?' I asked the
Young man seated nearest to me.
Cyprus . We'll be there for two weeks
for special training, and then we're being deployed to Afghanistan .
After flying for about an hour,
an announcement was made that
lunches were available for five pounds.
It would be several
hours before we reached Cyprus ,
and I quickly decided a lunch would
help pass the time..
As I reached for my wallet,
I overheard a soldier ask his mate if
he planned to buy lunch.
'No, that seems like a lot of money for
just an airline lunch.
Probably wouldn't be worth five Quid.
I'll wait till we get to Cyprus ....
His mate agreed.
I looked around at the other soldiers.
None were buying lunch.
I walked to the back of the plane
and handed the flight attendant a
fifty Pound note.
'Take a lunch to all those soldiers..'
She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly.
Her eyes wet with tears,
she thanked me.
'My young bloke was a soldier in Iraq ,
it's almost like you are doing it for him..'
Picking up ten lunchboxes,
she headed up the aisle to where the
boys were seated.
She stopped at my seat and asked,
'Which do you
like best - beef or chicken?'
'Chicken,' I replied, wondering
why she asked..
She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute
later with a dinner plate from first class.
This is your thanks.
After we finished eating,
I went again to the back of the plane,
heading for the rest room.
An old bloke stopped me.
'I saw what you did.
I want to be part of it.
Here, take this.'
He handed me twenty-five
Pounds..
Soon after I returned to my seat,
I saw the Captain coming
down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he wasn't looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers
only on my side of the plane.
When he got to my row he stopped, smiled,
held out his hand, and said,
'I want to shake your hand.'
Quickly unfastening my seat-belt I stood and took the Captain's hand.
With a booming voice he said, 'I was an army pilot a long time back.
Once someone bought me lunch.
It was an act of kindness I never forgot.'
I was embarrassed when applause
was heard from all of the passengers.
Later I walked to the front of the plane
so I could stretch my legs.
A kid who looked about 18 was sitting about
six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine.
He left another twenty-five Pounds
In my palm.
When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to depart.
Waiting just inside the aeroplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word.
Another twenty-five Pounds!
Upon entering the terminal,
I saw the soldiers gathering for their
Trip up to their training area..
I walked over to them and handed
them seventy-five Pounds.
'It will take you some time to
reach your training area. It will be
about time for a sandwich.
God Bless You Blokes.'
Ten young blokes left that flight feeling
the love and respect of their fellow Brits.
As I walked briskly to my car,
I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were
giving their all for our country.
I could... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/9144
Interesting. Frightening even. Read it, believe it or take it with a large pinch of salt. You decide.
Shocking Predictions .....Let See What Happens In 2012 !
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE INTERESTS OVERSEAS, EITHER IN TERMS OF INVESTMENTS OR FOLKS LIVING OVERSEAS, JUST BE MORE ALERT AND CAREFUL.
The man who predicted the 1987 stock market crash and the fall of the Soviet Union is now forecasting a revolution in America , food riots and tax rebellions - all within four years, while cautioning that putting food on the table will be a more pressing concern than buying Christmas gifts by 2012.
Gerald Celente, the CEO of Trends Research Institute, is renowned for his accuracy in predicting future world and economic events, which will send a chill down your spine considering what he told Fox News this week.
Celente says that by 2012 America will become an underdeveloped nation, that there will be a revolution marked by food riots, squatter rebellions, tax revolts and job marches, and that holidays will be more about obtaining food, not gifts.
"We ' re going to see the end of the retail Christmas... we ' re going to see a fundamental shift take place... putting food on the table is going to be more important than putting gifts under the Christmas tree," said Celente, adding that the situation would be "worse than the great depression."
"America's going to go through a transition the likes of which no one is prepared for," said Celente, noting that people ' s refusal to acknowledge that America was even in a recession highlights how big a problem denial is in being ready for the true scale of the crisis.
Celente, who successfully predicted the 1997 Asian Currency Crisis, the subprime mortgage collapse and the massive devaluation of the U.S. dollar, told UPI in November last year that the following year would be known as "The Panic of 2008," adding that "giants (would) tumble to their deaths," which is exactly what we have witnessed with the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and others. He also said that the dollar would eventually be devalued by as much as 90 percent.
The consequence of what we have seen unfold this year would lead to a lowering in living standards, Celente predicted a year ago, which is also being borne out by plummeting retail sales figures.
The prospect of revolution was a concept echoed by a British Ministry of Defence report last year, which predicted that within 30 years, the growing gap between the super rich and the middle class, along with an urban underclass threatening social order would mean, "The world ' s middle classes might unite, using access to knowledge, resources and skills to shape transnational processes in their own class interest," and that, "The middle classes could become a revolutionary class."
In a separate recent interview, Celente went further on the subject of revolution in America . "There will be a revolution in this country," he said. "It ' s not going to come yet, but it ' s going to come down the line and we ' re going to see a third party and this was the catalyst for it: the takeover of Washington, D.C., in broad daylight by Wall Street in this bloodless coup. And it will happen as conditions continue to worsen."
"The first thing to do is organise with tax revolts. That's going to be the big one because people can't afford to pay more school tax, property tax, any kind of tax. You're going to start seeing those kinds of protests start to develop." "It's going to be very bleak. Very sad. And there is going to be a lot of homeless, the likes of which we have never seen before.
Tent cities are already sprouting up around the country and we're going to see many more." "We're going to start seeing huge areas of vacant real estate and squatters living in them as... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/9137
Subject: Latest TV News Report on " Jack and Jilli's accident" New Delhi India, December 03, 2011
Here is how the Indian TV news channel NPTV 24x7 would report the Jack and Jill nursery rhyme. There is acute shortage of water in the Indian Capital ~ New Delhi - All names (except those of Jack and Jill), are fictitious. Any similarity is not logical.
Prashant - TV Anchor :
Two persons have been injured in a freak climbing accident. Jack and his companion Jill had gone up a hill to fetch a pail of water when Jack fell down and broke his crown. Jill came tumbling after. Live from the hill, our reporter, Amrita Shah, takes up the story.
Amrita Shah :
Thank you Prashant. Well, as you say, two persons - Jack and Jill - had gone up a hill to fetch a pail of water. Suddenly, Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after. Prashant.
Prashant :
Thank you Amrita. What do we know about the hill?
Amrita :
Not too much. Jack was going up the hill to fetch a pail of water when he fell down and broke his crown. Jill came tumbling after [Headline appears at the foot of the TV screen: "hill breaks crown of pail-boy Jack"]
Prashant :
What news of Jack and Jill?
Amrita :
Prashant, it seems that Jack had gone up the hill to fetch a pail of water. We know nothing about the pail, or how heavy it was but it seems that Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after. I have here with me, an eyewitness to the accident, Mr Shahid Trivedi. Mr Shahid, tell us what you saw.
Shahid Trivedi :
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after. [Headline appears at the foot of the TV screen: "Boy and girl tumble down hill. Water spilled"]
Amrita :
Jack and Jill. What do we know about them? Are they brother and sister? Are they married? Just what were they doing on the hill together?
Shahid Trivedi :
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail a water.
Amrita :
And what happened next?
Shahid Trivedi :
Jack fell down and broke his crown
Amrita :
Go on.
Shahid Trivedi :
And Jill came tumbling after.
Amrita :
Prashant, there you have it. Two people innocently going about their business to fetch a pail of water when one of them falls down, breaks his crown, and the other comes tumbling after. Back to you in the studio Prashant. [Headline appears at the foot of the TV screen: "Water errand ends in tragedy"]
Prashant :
I have with me in the studio now, Professor Chandrashekar Belagare from the Indian Institute of Applied Hill Sciences. Professor: a hill; Jack; Jill; a pail of water. A tragedy waiting to happen?
Professor :
Well that depends on the hill, the two persons, the object they were carrying and the conditions underfoot. Let us look at the evidence so far.
Jack and Jill
Went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down
And broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Clearly, one would suspect that if Jack’s fall was severe enough to break his crown then the surface of the hill must have been slippery or unstable. But I think we’re overlooking something quite fundamental here. Who was carrying the pail? Jack fell down and broke his crown and – this is the key – Jill came tumbling after. If Jack and Jill had been carrying the pail together, would they not have fallen at the same time? The fact that Jill came tumbling after suggests that Jack lost his footing first and perhaps knocked Jill over as he slipped.
Prashant :
Professor thank you very much. So there we have it, two persons – Jack and Jill – went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/9136
Zakir Naik, one of the most rabid Muslim preachers in India, whose entry has been banned in the UK and Canada, but who seems to have a free hand here to insult Hindu spiritual leaders and Hindu scriptures. Naik is infamous for a video clip that circulated on the Internet in which he says, “If he (Osama bin Laden) is fighting the enemies of Islam, I am for him. If he is terrorizing the terrorists, if he is terrorizing America the terrorist, the biggest terrorist, I am with him. Every Muslim should be a terrorist.” He is one the several icons of Digvijay Singh. RT

Who is actually dividing the nation along communal lines? It started immediately after independence by the then leaders to garner Muslim votes. Why the political party called Jansangh was formed by late Shyama Prasad Mukherjee? Late Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was a cabinet minister in Nehru’s cabinet. He was disillusioned by Congress’s the then vote bank politics even if the same meant dividing the nation. The present UPA and some other parties are keeping the communal pot boiling in Gujrat for vote bank politics. They consider Narendra Mody a serious threat because he looks after the wellbeing of people of Gujrat regardless of their religion as a result he is respected by people of Gujrat whereas UPA etc believe in looking after themselves duly reflected in scam after scam including 2G and CWG. Therefore, the action by Dr. Swamy seems to be justified so that Central Government is restrained from enacting laws to further vote bank politics. Why UPA is opposed to Jan Lokpal? Why Congress has not done anything to educate masses including the Muslims? Democracy works in Europe & US because voters are educated and they will not vote for party that works against the interest of people and nation

“In the year 2006, a person can have sufficient intellectual and material resources to build a nuclear bomb, use it on innocent people and still believe that he will get seventy-two virgins in Paradise. Western secularists, liberals, and moderates have been very slow to understand this. The cause of their confusion is simple: they don’t know what is like to really believe in God.Most are all followers of dhimmitude.
Somebody may say: ‘Do you want to deny freedom to people?' We say to him: ‘If what is meant by freedom is to disbelieve in God's religion, or the freedom of infidelity and apostasy, then that freedom is abolished and we do not recognize it; we even call for its eradication, and we strive to oppress it. We declare that publicly and in daylight"' [Dr. Taha Jabir's, "The Islamic Society" April 17,1984, p. 26] @BDUTT This is how Islam describes democracy and free thinking and these comments are recent not 7th Century.
"The earth is flat, and anyone who disputes this claim is an atheist who deserves to be punished." [Muslim religious edict, 1993 Sheik Abdel-Aziz Ibn Baaz Supreme religious authority, Saudi Arabia]
"If someone becomes a Muslim then apostatizes, he would be asked to repent; if he does not repent, he should be killed". [Imam al-Shafi'i, The Ordinances of the Qur'an (part 1, p. 289)] @BDUTT One cant take the position that these have to be read in context because they are so clear that it needs no reinterpretation.
@BDUTT Ma'am see where your brand of secularism and pluralism will land us. "O ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers .... and let them find harshness in you. [Koran, Repentance: 123]
Humiliate the non-Muslims to such an extent that they surrender and pay tribute. [Koran, Repentance: 29]" There are multitude of such gems exhorting the faithful to implement which the Jihadis are doing.
@BDUTT Ma'am, your brand of secularism will kill it as the true reason lies here: "We are informed that the rationale for the creation of the human being is to worship Allah, and that the Islamic polity and the principles, which underlie it, are instituted to facilitate that worship. Hence, Islam is fundamentally anti-secular. Allah informs us in the Qur'an: I have only created the Jinn and Humans that they worship Me. Al-Dhariyyat: 56 Regardless of which of these developments we view as being pivotal in the development of secularism, we must return to one salient fact: Secularism constitutes open rebellion against Allah." By Imam Zaid Shakir
@inhuggermugger "But the West is trying to weaken Islam from outside and inside. They attack our people and invade our countries from outside, and they weaken us from within with ideas like secularism, liberalism and democracy. This is all designed to contaminate our pure Islam."- Abu Bakar Bashir
@BDUTT Your brand of pluralism and secularism only enhances the truth being laid bare below within quotes which if allowed to triumph will result in your concept of pluralism, secularism and democracy becoming the first casualty. We nationalist Indians know this and are therefore guarding against it. Thats why Pakistan was created where these laudable values have become meaningless. The Pinkos have lost the battle Ma'am.

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness. ~Dalai Lama
No man for any considerable period can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne,
The great majority of us are required to live a life of constant duplicity. Your health is bound to be affected if, day after day, you say the opposite of what you feel, if you grovel before what you dislike, and rejoice at what brings you nothing but misfortune. ~Boris Pasternak
We can’t go around hurting muslim feelings. Blowing up cars, planes, trains, themselves, others duped into being suicide bombers, that’s all fine and well. But don’t dare hurt their feelings by insulting their “culture” or "religion". That would be communal!
@GeoffAlexander1 Thank you for following me on twitter. I shall be highly obliged if you can help me find a Literary Agent or Publisher in USA for a full novel that I have written on Political Fiction with an international format. It also targets those who wish to know contemporary India through the eyes of an Indian living in India.Apart from this the more than 3 million Indian diaspora living in the US plus the Pakistanis and Bangladeshis will also find the book very topical.
And who can doubt that it will lead to the worst disorders when minds created free by God are compelled to submit slavishly to an outside will? When we are told to deny our senses and subject them to the will of others? ~Galileo Galilei
We begin life with the world presenting itself to us as it is. Someone - our parents, teachers, analysts - hypnotizes us to "see" the world and construe it in the "right" way. These others label the world, attach names and give voices to the beings and events in it, so that thereafter, we cannot read the world in any other language or hear it saying other things to us. The task is to break the hypnotic spell, so that we become undeaf, unblind and multilingual, thereby letting the world speak to us in new voices and write all its possible meanings in the new book of our existence. Be careful in your choice of hypnotists. ~Sidney Jourard
The minority, the ruling class at present, has the schools and press, usually the Church as well, under its thumb. This enables it to organize and sway the emotions of the masses, and make its tool of them. ~Albert Einstein, letter to Sigmund Freud, 30 July 1932
The eager and often inconsiderate appeals of reformers and revolutionists are indispensable to counterbalance the inertia and fossilism marking so large a part of human institutions. ~Walt Whitman, Democratic Vistas, 1871
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it - even if I have said it - unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. ~Buddha
Pakistan has launched three wars of aggression in its blood-soaked history, all against India, all of which Pakistan lost. Pakistan builds nuclear weapons and nuclear-capable missiles, which it sells the technology for to any and all comers, no questions asked. Pakistan sucks up gifts such as weapons and supplies, intelligence data from the US, and especially financial aid packages from the rest of the world, and either squirrels the money away into various numbered accounts, or passes along as loot to jihad terrorists and other enemies of the Free World. Barbarous shariah laws viciously run riot and leave an ever-growing pile of broken and dead bodies in its wake. Pakistan's police and military murder journalists who question how and why such a horrid state of affairs has come to pass. And on and on. Over sixty years of ignominious history has not been kind to the decision to create Pakistan. Pakistan itself is a bleeding sore in South Asia, and its continued existence is a shame if not an ongoing crime against humanity. If the past 64 years have proven anything, they prove that, quite unlike South Sudan, Pakistan does not deserve sovereignty, nor does it deserve to be treated as a member of the family of nations.
Given these incontrovertible facts, may I humbly suggest that Pakistan no longer be referred to as "Pakistan", the so-called 'Land of the Pure". Merely mentioning the name is, in a way, tacitly accepting its existence, which right-thinking people everywhere should instantly reject. So, from this point onwards, let us call that place by a more culturally and historically correct name: "Muslim-occupied India". For India was a Hindu land for thousands of years before the invading barbarians of Islam appeared to seize Hindu lands and slaughter its inhabitants, which laid the groundwork for the eventual Muslim calamitous maladministration of that same land.
Will Durant, American historian: "India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe's languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all".
Mark Twain, American author: "India is, the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grand mother of tradition. our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only."
AND WHAT ARE OUR PRESENT DYNASTY RULERS DOING TO THIS VERY INDIA!!

All predatory #Religions are the quest to control human beings through emotional intimidation. It demands total faith without any evidence to back its claims. Nothing is open to criticism, and questioning anything is considered evil and covered under #blasphemy laws with death as a punishment as in #Islam.
RT. "I cant wait to come back.I have heard from friends that coming to India changes your life because its a spiritual & magical place" says Paris Hilton the famous model and heir to the International Hilton Hotels chain of business. She takes back saris and bindis with her to wear in the US. Clearly, it is Hindu India she is talking about like all knowledgeable people the world over who know that India's unique image and ethos is HINDU even though some Indians wish to deny it.
All Right-Wingers think so much alike and they are always right as proved subsequently despite the howls of protests by the Left-Liberal Brigade. Here is a fraction of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to the UN recently.
"Over seventy years ago, Winston Churchill lamented what he called the "confirmed unteachability of mankind," the unfortunate habit of civilized societies to sleep until danger nearly overtakes them.
Churchill bemoaned what he called the "want of foresight, the unwillingness to act when action will be simple and effective, the lack of clear thinking, the confusion of counsel until emergency comes, until self-preservation strikes its jarring gong."
I speak here today in the hope that Churchill's assessment of the "unteachibility of mankind" is for once proven wrong.I speak here today in the hope that we can learn from history -- that we can prevent danger in time."
In an recent interview, General Norman Schwarzkopf was asked if he thought there was room for forgiveness toward the people who have harbored and abetted the terrorists who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks on America .
His answer was classic Schwarzkopf.
The General said, "I believe that forgiving them is God's function ....
Our job is to arrange the meeting."
When is the Indian Government arranging the meeting of Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab with God ?
A Sikh friend went to a London restaurant because it was Punjabi. He soon realised it was Paki joint. The owner was friendly and told him that both sides of the border the culture, language and cuisine were same and it would have remained one had it NOT BEEN FOR INDIA HAVING BEEN CARVED OUT INTO A SEPARATE NATION IN 1947!! This is the level of hatred that is taught to Pakis in their country against India.Any wonder the Mullahs find it so easy to brainwash these morons into suicide bombing missions?

@Jihadkiller Hadithul-ifk, meaning ‘the untruthful talk’, is the name given to the rumours that circulated in the city of Medina upon the return of the Muslims’ Army after defeating the tribe of Bani Al Mustalk. The Muslims’ army won an easy victory over the Jewish tribe and returned fully laden with slaves and other war booties. However, a last minute hitch turned what should have been a big day into one of the most embarrassing days in Muhammad’s life. What could be more embarrassing to a man than returning home and discovering that his wife was out with another man? You can imagine how Muhammad felt when he watched, along with the other residents of Medina, his favourite wife entering the city with a stranger!
Whatever happened between Aisha and Safwan on that day had demoralised Muhammad, dented his integrity and divided the Islamic community. Indeed, Muslims are divided even in our time over what happened between Aisha and Safwan on that day 14 centuries ago. Some of the bitter wars between the conflicting Muslim groups, costing tens of thousands of lives, can be traced back to that infamous day. This article discusses those stressful events, which are well documented in all the reputed sira books, and presents the picture as seen from a non-Islamic point of view. This article tries to explain the otherwise inexplicable delay in the ‘revelations’ when it was most urgently needed.
The Story
It was customary for Muhammad to take one of his wives with him whenever he launched a ‘ghazwa’ (i.e. Jihad raid), which, it would seem, was kind of going out for picnic to him. Muhammad enjoyed those ghazwas so much that he used to launch several of them every year. In the sixth year after hijra, Muhammad picked Aisha to accompany him in his campaign against the Jewish tribe of Bani Al Mustalik. The campaign was an easy success, because they were attack suddenly as they watered their cattle; most of the men were killed, and their wives and children were taken as slaves. Among the captives was Juwayriya, the beautiful wife of the tribe’s chief. The Islamic history sources focus on Juwayriya’s class and splendour and claim that she was one of the most beautiful women in Arabia. She was not only glamorous but also an eloquent woman, who was brought up as a princess. Aisha openly admitted that she hated Juwayriya from the first sight because of her stunning beauty, and she admitted that she was jealous of the female captive because, knowing her husband’s carnal lust, she was sure that Muhammad would be stunned by her exceptional beauty and start coveting her. Aisha couldn’t be more right; Muhammad immediately promoted Juwayriya from slave to his wife.
According to Aisha, as the army had an overnight stop on the way back to Medina, she felt the need to leave the camp to answer the call of nature. Her return to the camp was delayed because she had to search for her dropped necklace. When she came back to the camp, she found that the army had already left the site, and she stayed in her place hoping that Muhammad would realize that she was missing, and return to look for her. As it turned out, Muhammad did not come back to rescue her, and did not even notice her absence until his arrival to medina.
Aisha was soon spotted by Safwan Ibn Al Muattal, Muhammad Jihadi comrade, who had emigrated from Mecca. He was travelling on his own behind the army. He approached her, and offered her a ride on his camel. Aisha, sitting behind Safwan on his camel, made her way into Medina where Muhammad and his companions were waiting (1,2).
According to Ibn Hisham/Ibn Ishaq, that was the story told by Aisha. It implies that she spent more time in that desert ‘loo’ than the time it took the army to prepare to move and actually leave the place and completely... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/7937

Freedom of speech is a core human right,it is sacrosanct and we must tolerate no infringement upon it. That quote “I may disagree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it” by Volitaire, French writer applies here. For the State to use criminal law to silence a citizen is simply beyond the pale and we must ALL stand up and speak up against it! The media talks of "Freedom of the Press," agreed. But what about "Freedom by the Press"? when they do not allow those who do not agree with them? The print media the world over is already under the ventilator, soon their electronic counterparts will be too as biased and committed editors and anchors try to stifle frank opinions that run counter to their policies. Blogs, facebook, twitter and other networking platforms will edge them out.

All communal riots taking place in non-BJP ruled States are called secular riots and local agencies can investigate. If it is BJP State then it is a communal riot of the worst kind with automatic conclusion drawn that the State law and order machinery will victimize the minority community by shooting them and allow the majority a free hand.Hence there must be a CBI Inquiry with a Judicial probe as well. This is the base argument in the NAC inspired Communal Violence Bill. But what is the "Secular" Congress Govt in Rajasthan to do now with higher "proportionate" (a British legacy of punishing rioters in ratio of their population not number of miscreants involved) deaths of the minority community in their police firing?
In Indian politics its not WHAT but WHO that holds centre stage. 40 communal riots had taken place in Gujarat alone during Congress regime plus Delhi Sikh killings by them in 1984. Yet Modi is villain for 2002 which is repeated ad nauseum from every known forum by the misguided and misguiding Left-Liberal-Secularists as they represent anti-India foreign interests for a fat fee.Only ever vigilant, aware, alert and vocal patriots can expose these foreign stooges.
@debha1 @prasannavishy @JohnDayal @swamy39 Johnny,"Those who live by the sword will die by the sword," Jesus told St.Peter.Guys like you sell Jesus for less than 30 pieces of silver as did Judas Iscariat as conversion is not due to conviction but for filthy lucre which Jesus shunned by telling the tempting Lucifer, "Get thee behind me Satan. Thou shall not tempt thy Lord thy God." You want caste-based reservations for lolly even though you converted innocents falsely stating that there is no untouchability or caste in your religion. Jam on both sides of the bread eh?Tell this to your Mama Mia too for whom guys like you have got lots of footage in sold out media. The cat of destroying India is out of the bag. The Hindu will rise and rule again as he is not a heathen for he believes in God-maybe not your "jealous God" as Hindu believes that "God is One" unlike yours' "There is only one God," as the Muslims do.The two Abrahamic faiths are now on collision course while we watch the proceedings from Hindu India.
Congress traditionally held monopoly on Hindu/Muslim riots which were started by Muslims & Hindus always victims.Media anger as trend reversed in Gujarat. No mention of Godhra burning of Rambhakts but full and distorted reportage on Gujarat riots that followed as a reaction to it. That is why Communal Violence Bill by desperate Congress to restore the status quo ante.
@BDUTT NATIONALISTS ARE RIGHT BUT LEFTISTS ARE WRONG
The Right always predicts the future correctly but being too advanced and uncommon knowledge it takes time for the warning to sink in to the minds of the polity. Meantime #Left damages it by carping all the time with what is commonly known, only to be proved wrong subsequently. Two examples:
Winston Churchill a Right Winger had said:"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property—either as a child, a wife, or a concubine—must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science—the science against which it had vainly struggled—the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome..."
As long as Hindus are at receiving end riots will go on in Congress ruled States. If Hindus retaliate Army will be called out to stop it.Congress legacy matches Communal Violence Bill initiated by the biggest anti-India, minority-in-chief. CVB existence is there for protecting the rioters' fundamental right to riot given to them by British since before Independence which got them Pakistan. If Hindus retaliate for survival and Army not called out then then all seculars will start baying like they have been doing against Narendra Modi since 2002 for 9 years. But habitual rioters' riots in Congress ruled States will be either not mentioned or swept under the carpet as it is happening in Adoni in A.P. and will happen in Bharatpur.Just watch media.
Another version quote eyewitnesses, who are often the grazers, said that #Chinese helicopters landed near the Line of Actual Control and then marched in to destroy old bunkers of the #Indian #Army and tents of #ITBP. Our Govt sources of course are in denial mode. One day the Chinese could take over #Ladakh and we will be told that the information is all rubbish.
All so called secular Left-Liberals who define their existence through appeasement of Muslims by accepting their refusal to integrate with the national ethos or mainstream of any country they are living in but instead demanding implementation of Sharia law to remain isolated should look at Pakistan which has reached implosion point through blinkered view of society because of literal interpretation of religion.
When Ussain Bolt runs he never looks back to see who is catching up but keeps running faster&faster to break another world record.Similarly we must keep up our efforts and focus our energies untiringly without being too much bothered about our critics in the media or inimical political parties.Whenever we criticize anyone we must copy the same to the person concerned so he or she knows what we are thinking of them.If they receive many such tweets it will make them take notice as they are creatures who are very susceptible to public opinion.
It is crucial to note that the call to violence or physical Jihad by the Quran developed as Muhammad’s support and available resources increased. What this means is that when Muhammad started his ministry in Mecca in A.D. 610, he and his followers were a small minority which prevented them to immediately put into practice his desire to expand Islam by way of launching physical attacks and battles. However, upon immigrating to Medina in A.D. 622, and upon gaining an increased monetary and human support, Muhammad’s role changed from being a mere prophet and a spiritual guide to an established political and military leader over the new Islamic community in Medina.[3] Soon after his arrival to Medina, Muhammad began to systematically reveal Quranic passages directing his followers to fight in the cause of Allah against their enemies; including both the Arab polytheists and the People of the Book (Jews and Christian). In the following section we will provide a sample of the many passages in the Quran which supports these various stages of development.
"Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” Q. 9:5
20 years from now, I will be in Heaven --bye !!
This was written by a woman born in Egypt as a Muslim.
This is not hearsay, and it will scare the life out of you.
Make sure you read the paragraph (in red) towards the end.
Joys of Muslim Women
By Nonie Darwish
In the Muslim faith a Muslim man can marry a child as young as 1 year old and have sexual intimacy with this child.
Consummating the marriage by 9.
The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who becomes his slave)
and for the purchase of the private parts of the woman, to use her as a toy.
Even though a woman is abused she can not obtain a divorce.
To prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses.
Often after a woman has been raped, she is returned to her family and the family must return the dowry.
The family has the right to! execute her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family.
Husbands can beat their wives 'at will' and he does not have to say why he has beaten her.
The husband is permitted to have (4 wives) and a temporary wife for an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.
The Shariah Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life of the woman.
In the West World ( America and Britain and Australia ) Muslim men are starting to demand Shariah Law so the wife can not obtain a divorce and he can have full and complete control of her.
It is amazing and alarming how many of our sisters and daughters attending Universities are now marrying Muslim men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly to the Shariah law.
By passing this on, enlightened women may avoid becoming a slave under Shariah Law ripping the West in Two.
Author and lecturer Nonie Darwish says the goal of radical Islamists is to impose Shariah law on the world,
ripping Western law and liberty in two.
She recently authored the book, Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law.
Darwish was born in Cairo and spent her childhood in Egypt and Gaza before immigrating to America in 1978,
When she was eight years old her father died while leading covert attacks on Israel .
He was a high-ranking Egyptian military officer stationed with his family in Gaza .......
When he died, he was considered a "shahid," a martyr for jihad. His posthumous status earned Nonie and her family an elevated position in Muslim society.
But Darwish developed a skeptical eye at an early age. She questioned her own Muslim culture and upbringing..
She converted to Christianity after hearing a Christian preacher on television.
In her latest book, Darwish warns about creeping sharia law - what it is, what it means, and how it is manifested in Islamic countries.
For the West, she says radical Islamists are working to impose sharia on the world.
If that happens, Western civilization will be destroyed.
Westerners generally assume all religions encourage a respect for the dignity of each individual.
Islamic law (Sharia) teaches that non-Muslims should be subjugated or killed in this world.
Peace and prosperity for one's children is not as important as assuring that Islamic law rules
Everywhere in the Middle East and eventually in the world.
While Westerners tend to think that all religions encourage some form of the golden rule,
Sharia teaches two systems of ethics - one for Muslims and another for non-Muslims.
Building on tribal practices of the seventh century,
Sharia encourages the side of humanity that wants to take from and subjugate others.
While Westerners tend to think in terms of religious people developing a personal understanding of and relationship with God,
Sharia advocates executing people who ask difficult questions that could be interpreted as... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/7831
Revolutionary29 The two largest Islamic denominations, the Sunni and Shi'a, take different approaches in weighing the value of the companions' (Sahabah) testimony, have different hadith collections and, as a result, have different constructed views about the Sahabah. There is disaggreement even among the devout!
“If at first you don’t succeed try,try and try again,”Robert Bruce King of Scotland is said to have told his troops before walloping the English at Bannockburn in 1314. According to the legend, Bruce was hiding from his English pursuers in a cave when he saw a spider spinning a web, trying to make a connection from one area of the roof to another. Each time the spider failed, it began again, till it succedded . Inspired by this, Bruce returned to inflict a series of defeats on the English, winning him more supporters and eventual victory. This is a lesson that Mr. L.K. Advani seems to be taking for his next Rath Yatra, which some are speculating as his next foray for the post of Prime Minister of India. He will be the most acceptable to all the present NDA partners as well as potential ones nearer the time if BJP manages to garner highest number of Lok Sabha seats in the next elections. It will also prevent any leadership fracas within the BJP as he is time tested and the most seasoned leader in the Party with a squeaky clean image.
That over the hill fossilized Saifuddin Soz tonight gave the game away when he kept on harping that Advani's Rath Yatra would "communalise" India. How? It is for a secular cause of fighting corruption, which means Congress has plans to instigate communal riots on Advani's trail like the Ram Yatra
@timesnow Arnab Goswami's crusading spirit is so laughable at times when he shoves his own half-baked theories down unwilling throats of panelists. If he doesn't want to give them chance to speak why call them? Viewers want to hear panel not self opinionated anchor.
Any country applying civilized laws to Muslim intransigence is living in fools paradise to expect positive results like treating lung cancer with cough syrup

One wonders, as we slowly work our way thought the 21st century, if Islam has moved forward at all, or if it's adherents have regressed even further. Recall Churchill's warnings about Hitler. Churchill had warned repeatedly that Hitler would attack England but the Left always accused him of jingoism. We all know that Hitler did attack England and Churchill was proved right.
Second example: The Indian Right Wingers have been warning us ad nauseum about illegal infiltration from Bangladesh for over four decades and the Left-Liberals have shouted them down. Now when it is a bit late with millions residing as citizens inside India and having spread like a deadly weed in every nook and corner the Left-Libbers nod in silence.

“Islam wants all nations replaced by the so-called Ummah, the common identity of the Nation of Islam to which all have to be subservient and into which all national identities have to vanish.

So it is. We lit the light of the truth. And the truth will set us free. The truth is that Islam can be successfully fought with democratic means. Never give in to the bullies! Never give up hope. Never despair! You can still turn the tide! One can always turn the tide!" --Geert Wilders

NEW DELHI: Some of India’s biggest fish are getting caught up in the country’s fast-growing wave of anti-corruption activity. In what could be India’s equivalent of a judicial jasmine revolution, previously invulnerable politicians, business icons, and pillars of the community are all nervously keeping their lawyers on speed-dial.
The anti-corruption push is an unprecedented coming together of myriad facets of Indian society. Religious leaders are concerned about the effects on morality and spiritual growth. NGOs speak of the effects on the poor. The middle class is angry about its future being stifled by a smothering blanket of day-to-day corruption. The intelligence services see corruption a clear threat to national security. And the business community, thanks to globalisation, has seen how efficiently things can operate without having to constantly pay bribes or be tangled in red tape, and they want the same thing at home.
Even the Supreme Court is fed up, with Justice B Sudarshan Reddy saying about the vast sums of Indian money being illegally hidden away in Liechtenstein Bank:
We are talking about the huge money. It is a plunder of the nation. It is a pure and simple theft of the national money. We are talking about mind-boggling crime.
The scandals are bursting on to the front pages fast and thick. Suresh Kalmadi, a Congress Party politician and the former head of the corruption-plagued Commonwealth Games, was arrested on April 25. According to a report by the Indian Comptroller and Auditor General, the 2G spectrum scam alone, in which 2G licenses were sold off in a manner that was, to say the least, less than transparent, cost close to $40 billion in lost revenue.
All across India, people are saying enough is enough. And suddenly the unthinkable is starting to happen. People considered above reproach, or at least untouchable, are coming under the judicial cross-hairs. 2G alone has seen charges laid against one former government minister and several captains of industry.
And the latest high profile target is one of the biggest fish of all, Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi, currently #9 on Forbes list of the World’s Most Powerful People.
Sonia Gandhi has one of the most remarkable life stories in international politics. Born Edvige Antonia Albina Maino into a family of modest means in rural Italy, she didn’t even get a chance to complete high school before heading to the UK for work. There she met Rajiv Gandhi, son of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She eventually married him and the young family moved in to Indira Gandhi’s New Delhi’s home, putting her literally in the heart of Indian politics.
After Indira Gandhi’s assassination in 1984, Sonia’s husband Rajiv became Prime Minister. Following Rajiv’s 1991 assassination by Tamil terrorists, there were rumours that Sonia was going to put herself forward as Prime Minister.
As she herself later said, she “could not walk past the portraits of my husband, my mother-in-law and her father and not feel that I had some responsibility to try and save the party they had given their lives to.”
Given her focus on the party, it was fitting that instead of becoming Prime Minister, she ended up as president of the powerful Congress Party. Politically, it proved to be a smart move as it gave her power without direct responsibility while she is # 9 on Forbes list of power people, the actual Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, is only #18. According to Forbes, “Gandhi remains the real power behind the nuclear-tipped throne [...] she has cemented her status as true heiress to the Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty.”

Otherwise our numbers will keep dwindling- we used to be around 600 million by the reckoning of Ferishta, the oldest Muslim historian, now we are just 200 million. But thanks to a puzzling U.S. diplomatic initiative that was unveiled in July, Resolution 16/18 is poised to become a springboard for a greatly reinvigorated international effort to criminalize speech against Islam, the very thing it was designed to quash.
Citing a need to “move to implementation” of Resolution 16/18, the Obama administration has inexplicably decided to launch a major international effort against Islamophobia in partnership with the Saudi-based OIC. This is being voluntarily assumed at American expense, outside the U.N. framework, and is not required by the resolution itself. Can anyone explain why? RT @inhuggermugger
Taqiyya: The legalized practice of lying, which is ordered under Sharia law to advance Islam's growth in political power and to dominate the world while appearing as a peaceful, tolerant religion.Like creeping up on you until it is too late-- for you that is. So how do we know how much of the so-called "Holy"(?) texts that are there in the book are not "taqiyya" or fabrications meant for advancing Islam's growth? RT. @inhuggermugger

@gauravsawant If Anna takes up issue of removing army from Kashmir or change the Arms Forces Act, he will have no support. His success lies in choosing the correct topic of corruption which bugs every Indian & there was a large vacuum which was not being filled up by opposition political parties. His first supporters at Ramlila were from the ABVP that drew others in.Unless he gets the support of these his movements will flop.
In Islamic constitutions, the declaration of Islam as the "state religion" not only turns the declaration of "equality of all citizens" contradictory, but also leads to state-sanctioned practical discrimination and inequities against members of non-Islamic faiths. Yet Muslims violently object when they live in non-Muslim countries if they are not given special rights under their Sharia.Obviously, they are an all-grabbing group who want from others what they are unwilling to give to others. Expose this doctrinaire avaricious lot to all you tweet/friends/followers

The 104-day-old Mamata Banerjee government was today reminded of its promises to the minority community and cautioned against “complacency” and “inaction” at the largest and most significant Id prayer congregation in Bengal."The new government must learn a lesson from what happened to the previous government," said the Imam. @auldtimer In case of India, media is accused of being favorably predisposed to a left leaning ideological position and nurturing a partisan political bias towards the ruling Congress establishment. Leaked Radia tapes clearly established how the discredited doyens of Indian media, while masquerading as neutral and non-partisan, actually operated on behalf of their political benefactors.
As part of establishing more rigor in to understanding the print media bias in India , CRI MediaWatch decided to select 25 English language newspapers based on host of criterion including audited circulation/geographical focus/online presence and decided to invite a set of eminent media experts to mark the selected newspapers on political leanings and ideological dispositions. The expert panel was also requested to provide details substantiating on why they marked the newspaper they way they did it.
To be fair we cannot claim that results of the survey were surprisingly. Results were quite predictable and establishes clearly that the accusation of centre-left/ Congress bias is not a myth created by vast right wing conspirators or outcome of a successful propaganda by right wing fear factory. In fact survey results demonstrate utter lack of counter narrative and abysmally low presence of right wing media outlets in English print media landscape

THE MAGNITUDE OF MUSLIM ATROCITIES
The world famous historian, Will Durant has written in his Story of Civilisation that “the Mohammedan conquest of India was probably the bloodiest story in history”.
India before the advent of Islamic imperialism was not exactly a zone of peace. There were plenty of wars fought by Hindu princes. But in all their wars, the Hindus had observed some time-honoured conventions sanctioned by the Šãstras. The Brahmins and the Bhikshus were never molested. The cows were never killed. The temples were never touched. The chastity of women was never violated. The non-combatants were never killed or captured. A human habitation was never attacked unless it was a fort. The civil population was never plundered. War booty was an unknown item in the calculations of conquerors. The martial classes who clashed, mostly in open spaces, had a code of honour. Sacrifice of honour for victory or material gain was deemed as worse than death.
Islamic imperialism came with a different code - the Sunnah of the Prophet. It required its warriors to fall upon the helpless civil population after a decisive victory had been won on the battlefield. It required them to sack and burn down villages and towns after the defenders had died fighting or had fled. The cows, the Brahmins, and the Bhikshus invited their special attention in mass murders of non-combatants. The temples and monasteries were their special targets in an orgy of pillage and arson. Those whom they did not kill, they captured and sold as slaves. The magnitude of the booty looted even from the bodies of the dead, was a measure of the success of a military mission. And they did all this as mujãhids (holy warriors) and ghãzîs (kãfir-killers) in the service of Allah and his Last Prophet.
Hindus found it very hard to understand the psychology of this new invader. For the first time in their history, Hindus were witnessing a scene which was described by KãnhaDade Prabandha (1456 AD) in the following words: “The conquering army burnt villages, devastated the land, plundered people’s wealth, took Brahmins and children and women of all classes captive, flogged with thongs of raw hide, carried a moving prison with it, and converted the prisoners into obsequious Turks.” That was written in remembrance of Alauddin Khalji’s invasion of Gujarat in the year 1298 AD. But the gruesome game had started three centuries earlier when Mahmud Ghaznavi had vowed to invade India every year in order to destroy idolatry, kill the kãfirs, capture prisoners of war, and plunder vast wealth for which India was well-known.
Mahmud’s sack of Somnath is too well-known to be retold here. What needs emphasising is that the fragments of the famous Šivaliñga were carried to Ghazni. Some of them were turned into steps of the Jama Masjid in that city. The rest were sent to Mecca, Medina, and Baghdad to be desecrated in the same manner.
The climax came during the invasion of Timur in 1399 AD. He starts by quoting the Quran in his Tuzk-i-Timûrî: “O Prophet, make war upon the infidels and unbelievers, and treat them severely.” He continues: “My great object in invading Hindustan had been to wage a religious war against the infidel Hindus… [so that] the army of Islam might gain something by plundering the wealth and valuables of the Hindus.”
To start with he stormed the fort of Kator on the border of Kashmir. He ordered his soldiers “to kill all the men, to make prisoners of women and children, and to plunder and lay waste all their property”. Next, he “directed towers to be built on the mountain of the skulls of those obstinate unbelievers”. Soon after, he laid siege to Bhatnir defended by Rajputs. They surrendered after some fight, and were pardoned. But Islam did not bind Timur to keep his word given to the... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/7628
Christianity has not gotten tolerant over the years; it has merely gotten smarter. You catch more flies with sugar than salt, and you get more converts with slick rhetoric and high-tech propaganda than you do with dungeon, fire, and sword. So Christian intolerance no longer wears the mask of the Inquisitor.
Pope John Paul talked to all the Evangelic Missionaries to harvest the souls of Asia and destroy Indic faiths and their ancient cultures. He said that in the first millennium, we converted Europe. In the second millennium, we converted Africa and the Americas and now it is Asia 's turn.
Pradip N Thomas, an Indian Christian writes that "Christian fundamentalists", like Islamic fundamentalists, "belong to a global umma and harbour real and perhaps imagined ... longings directed towards making all of god's people Christian". The way the Christian nations are treating Islam and its fanatical adherents with kid gloves and encouraging the spread of Sharia in their own countries we Indians have realized that proselytizing religions like Christianity and Islam are out to take advantage of our secularism and pluralism to convert and upset the demographics thus subverting pluralism itself. They have learnt nothing from G.B. Shaw who had said long ago that "By converting a barber you do not Christianize a barber but you barbarize Christianity".
HOW MULLAHS HIDE BEHIND SHARIA (GOD's LAW) TO RULE MUSLIMS UNOPPOSED.
"But only months later I was shocked to witness the most heinous crimes taking place under the banner of Islam" writes Reza Kahlili formerly from Iran in an article titled "Why I renounce Islam and choose Christ." He was shocked because Ayatollah Khomeini went back on his earlier assurances of total freedom once the Shah Reza Pahlavi was overthrown.
"The mullahs forced Iranians to adhere to a strict Islamic dress code and subjected them to amputation as the punishment for stealing, lashing for drinking, stoning for adultery. Boys and girls seeking the freedoms promised to them were rounded up and taken to Evin prison. Many were raped, tortured and executed, among them my best friend and his siblings. Teenage girls were raped prior to execution because in Islam a virgin can go to heaven, and the "men of God" wanted to deny them that reward. Others were slowly lowered in tanks of acid so they would die painfully.
Khomeini and the clerics announced themselves as representatives of Allah on earth and declared anyone opposing them to be a "Moharb," an enemy of God. The punishment was execution. Tens of thousands were executed.
Even a cursory examination of the timeline of the 2002 riots investigation will show us that it’s not justice that they want for the riot victims but the scalp of the Gujarat Chief Minister. Bcoz longer he stays on the greater the growth of Gujarat far ahead of any other Indian State that makes him best PM candidate with his rising popularity even among sworn detractors and also relegating the Congress to non-entity status in Gujarat and its spin effect in other States like Jayalalitha in Tamil Nadu. The knives have been out for Narendra Modi for long but no blood could be drawn so far.
It is interesting that Hindu Americans largely recuse themselves from all of this angst over evolution. Indeed, cosmology, science, and the ancient Vedas--Hinduism’s sacred scripture--are eerily complementary. Lord Brahma, the Lord of Creation, often depicted as one of the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, is described as creating the universe in an unending cycle over each of his days and nights. In his classic, Cosmos, Carl Sagan describes Hinduism’s agreement with modern science best:
If the Big Bang theory is posited to have occurred 13 billion years ago, Hindus would have no trouble at all agreeing that an Intelligent Designer, Lord Brahma, indeed guides the creation of the universe. Even more, Swami Vivekananda, one of modern Hinduism’s intellectual giants wrote in the early 20th century, whether an intelligence made the material world, or whether, as some scientists believe, the material world led to the creation of intelligence, does not much matter. For in his words, “Indian philosophy, however, goes beyond both intelligence and matter, and finds a Purusha, or Self, which is beyond intelligence, of which intelligence is but the borrowed light.”
@sagarikaghose Anna's movement includes everyone without door shut to anyone based on caste or social status or creed. Anna haas merely provided a platform for every citizen who is concerned with rampant corruption by our political class. But a person like Kanchha Iliya, a self professed anti-Hindu casteist rabblerouser and Sagarika Ghose kindred soul seems to play up his usual rhetoric of identity politics as a permanent invitee to Sagarika's talk shows. Instead of seeing the larger picture Kanchha refuses to throw away his narrow tokenism blinkers for fortifying his relevance through @CNN-IBN. Has any Dalit or minority come forward to join Anna and has been turned away? Look at the teeming crowds in Ramlila grounds and you will notice people of all shades cutting across cast and creed barriers in a rainbow coalition of society. Maybe Kanchha was waiting for a special call up from Anna's group to join him as a messiah of the Dalits. There is no difference between Kanchha and Syed Ahmed Bukhari a mere Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid and no Muslim leader for whom the Indian Muslims have little regard. Kanchha may collect a few hundred rent-a-crowd rabble to his venue but that has nothing to do with the people whom he claims he represents.
@sagarikaghose So far Indian democracy meant you vote once in 5 years and sit back helplessly watching the political system bungling and ripping off the nation's wealth. Anna's movement proves that people's involvement does not end with casting a vote once in 5 years. They can order a course correction in the interregnum too.
The Journey Back Home, says the TOI. Let's reaffirm J&K's plural culture by ending the exile of the Valley's Pandits."India prides itself on its commitment to protect minorities. In a significant move the US House of Representatives recently introduced a resolution highlighting the plight of the dispossessed Pandits.

Ever wondered why the Congress is so tight lipped about this so called 'surgery'?
Ever wondred why this shroud of secrecy behind her surgery?
Ever wondered why Madam Gandhi had to go at this time for surgery? And what was the ailment that could not have been attended to by Indian doctors?
Ever wondered that she is accompnied by her family members AND NOT A SINGLE DOCTOR (NOT EVEN HER PERSONAL PHYSICIAN) has accompanied her. Most unusual!
If the then Prime MInister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's knees could have been replaced in Mumbai by a surgeon of Indian origin, why Madam Gandhi needed to go abroad for her surgery?
And even Manmohan Singh though a pensioner of the World bank and able to get free medical treatment in the US, got his heart surgery done in Delhi.......
And has she actually gone to the US or some other country? It is strongly suspected that the need for her to go abroad at this time is linked to the fact that Dr. Subramaniam Swamy's petition for the permission to prosecute Madam Gandhi (an MP) for corruption charges, pending with the Prime Minister's Office, has to be decided before the end of August this year.
Dr. Swamy has given incontrovertible proof of Sonia Gandhi's accounts in foreign banks, and these cannot be overlooked or ignored.
Madam Gandhi is actually suffering from an acute enlargement of her wealth gland. The real surgery for which Madam Gandhi has gone abroad has to do with the operation of her illegal bank accounts, as time is running out for her and her cronies. That is why even Kalanidhi Maran has disappeared from Chennai and is rumoured to have escaped to Zurich.
CAN WE REQUEST WIKILEAKS TO UNRAVEL THE TRUTH FOR INDIA?
Forget Anna Hazare. The Jan Lokpal movement can go to hell for all I care. Let us just look at the issues over which the battle between the Government and us citizens is being fought. And then let’s decide where we want to stand, each one of us, on the issue of corruption.
The first question is: Do corruption and bribery hurt you? If they do, do you want a solution? If your answer is yes to both, do you think such a solution lies with an independent authority? Or do you think a corrupt Government can fight corruption on its own, and within its own ranks? If your answer is no to that, then we need to create an independent institution to fight corruption. Right? Well, that’s precisely what Anna is asking for. He is asking for a Lokpal that the Government cannot influence nor manipulate. This is the first battle.
The second battle is over four things. One: Should the Prime Minister come under the purview of the Lokpal? Almost everyone I know thinks he should. A honest Prime Minister wouldn’t care. A dishonest one must be supervised. Or else, we will have cases like Bofors that will never ever be resolved. Two: Should Members of Parliament come under the Lokpal? I have not met a single person till date who thinks that our MPs are so honest that they need not be supervised. My guess is if a referendum is ever taken, Anna will get a 100% yes to this question, given what people think of our politicians and the standards of probity in public life. The third question is even more obvious: Do all public servants need to come under the Lokpal? My guess is India’s answer will be yes, yes, yes. Every day, in every area of our life and work, we are constantly harassed, intimidated and extorted by corrupt Government officers. The poorer you are, the worse is the torture. So yes, every public servant, every Government officer must come under the Lokpal. Question four: Who should give permission to file an FIR against a corrupt judge? If the Lokpal can look into corruption charges against the PM, the MPs and Government servants, isn’t it only logical to expect it to do the same against judges?
The third and final battle is over an even simpler thing: The Citizen’s Charter. Should every Government office have such a Charter which will clearly state which officer will do what work and in how much time? And should an officer who refuses to do his work in time or asks for a bribe to move a file be punished? The Government says a charter a fine but Government servants must not be penalised if they don’t do their work! Anna believes that officers not doing their work in time amounts to corruption and must face the same treatment. Isn’t it rather obvious what India thinks about this?
Do we really need a referendum on these simple, basic issues? I seriously doubt it. Every Indian will endorse the idea of a Lokpal as Anna and his team have envisioned it, with the help of thousands of Indians who have contributed online to the process of drafting the bill.
Yes, there are genuine fears that we should not create yet another monster out there, who will make life more difficult for us than it already is. But even that has been addressed rather adroitly by Anna’s team. It is a complex process, true but it also ensures that the choice is wisely made. And what if there are charges against the Lokpal? Well, there’s a provision there too. You can go straight to the Supreme Court and seek justice out there.
So why are we arguing so much over this Bill? Why is the Government digging its heels in and refusing to listen to us citizens? Why must Anna go on a hunger strike all over again to press home the point that corruption must be fought back? I guess it’s a question of both ego and fear. No one likes to... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/7520

@taslimanasreen #Women's position in Islam seems peculiarly resistant to altering its established sexual attitudes toward them. The reason may lie in the fact that the very existence of Islamic culture over wide regions is due to these attitudes of sexual perversions!
The subjugation of women under the males in Islam is succinctly stated by #Churchill: “The fact that in Muhammedan laws every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property -- either as a child, a wife, or a concubine -- must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power amongst men.”[2]
The Islamic Scriptural Legitimization of Sexual Slavery!
In addition to allowing Islamic polygamy and permitting easy divorce to his male adherents, the Prophet of Islam also provided ample divine verses, promoting the rape of female-captives and the institution of Islamic sexual slavery:
1. “O Prophet! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war”. (Surah 33:50)
2. It is not allowed thee to take (other) women henceforth (for sexual gratifications) save those whom thy right hand possesseth. (Surah 33:52)
3. Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess. (Surah 70:30)
4. And if ye fear that ye will not deal fairly by the orphans, marry of the women, who seem good to you, two or three or four; and if ye fear that ye cannot do justice (to so many) then one (only) or (the captives) that your right hands possess. [Surah 4:3]
5. And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) that your right hands possess. [Surah 4:24]
6. And marry such of you as are solitary and the pious of your slaves and maid-servants. [Surah 24:32]
7. Successful indeed are the believers whom are humble in their prayers and whom guard their modesty; Save from their wives or the (slaves) that their right hands possess, for then they are not blameworthy.[3] [Surah 22:1-6]
8. And all married women are forbidden unto you except those captives whom your right hand possesses. It is a decree of Allah for you. Lawful unto you are all beyond those mentioned, so that you seek them with your wealth in honest wedlock, not debauchery. [Salih Muslim, Book 8:3371][4]
9. Indeed, the absolute subjugation of women men’s sexual gratification in Islam is never demanded by any other major world-religion as bluntly as the Prophet of Islam or Allah does in Surah 2:223. “Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will.” [6]
10. Commentator Jamie Glazov remarks on the singular reversals of morality present in Islamic doctrines regarding sex with captives.
11. Since Islam emphasizes the importance of conquering all non-Muslim nations, it bestows some intriguing sexual incentives. While it is a sin for a male to have sex with an unmarried woman, Allah makes an exemption of these for Muslim men, who rapes the women of the infidels that he kills. Prophet Muhammad did just that!
12. This explains why any time the Islamic warriors defeat another nation, they call the inhabitants kafir (the one who, according to the Koran, is ungrateful to the blessings showered by Allah) and rape their women. Pakistani Muslim soldiers raped a quarter of a million Bengali [East Pakistan] women in 1971 and also massacred 3 million unarmed East Pakistan civilians, often non-Muslim minorities. Such atrocities are not considered a sin in Islam, because the Muslim clerics of Pakistan decreed that Bangladeshis were infidels. [7]
13. Moreover, it may sound harsh, but the distinctions between "fertilizing" and "punishing" a woman is evident. On the one hand, you have sexuality as a tool serving the expansion of Islam; on the... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/7459

@waglenikhil A libtard wants to live in a fantasy world in which life is the way that they WISH IT WAS as opposed to dealing with life the way it actually is. The Right always thinks in advance hence thought uncommon. They are believed once it becomes common. Meanwhile Left+Libtards do maximum damage even though they are finally proved wrong-every time like our Indian Communists.
"Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues and freebooters. All Indian leaders will be of low calibre and men of straw. They will have sweet tongues and silly hearts. They will fight among themselves for power and will be lost in political squabbles" Sir Winston made this statement in the House of Commons just before the Independence of India. What a visionary he was as he had studied Nehru and his Congress Party so accurately as there was virtually no other Party in 1947. It is just as applicable today for the same Party.
@swapan55 @Swamy39 @smritiirani @rahulkanwal @sardesairajdeep @sagarikaghose @timesnow @BDUTT Has the Press become an outdated institution? How many Internet-savvy people have read the article by Shekhar Gupta on the 'real' history of the 1965 India-Pakistan war under the column "National interest" in The Indian Express?
I was surprised to know that for a veteran journalist like Gupta, the fact that the Indian account of '65 is a gross exaggeration was news. Readers of Wikipedia have known it for ages!
The question is, now that the mainstream media is being increasingly found outdated, how long will it take to become irrelevant?
The Right always predicts the future correctly but being too advanced it takes time for the warning to sink in to the minds of polity.Meantime #Left damages it by carping all the time to be proved wrong subsequently.
Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proseltyzing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science—the science against which it had vainly struggled—the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome..."
One wonders, as we slowly work our way thought the 21st century, if Islam has moved forward at all, or if it's adherents have regressed even further. Recall Churchill's warnings about Hitler.
It is indeed strange that the West that talks about reforms in Muslim countries fall over backwards to grant the same doctrines like Sharia to Muslims in their own countries. The problem with London is the problem with Chicago and Paris and Los Angeles and most of the rest of the free world. It's not enough to stick a nametag on a city and assume that its population can be swapped out with no social chaos or consequences.A culture is a consensus. Change the culture and you change the consensus. The Left-Liberals imagine that the consensus can be programmed by throwing enough TV ads, school courses and social media games at whatever bunch of people happen to be living in a geographical area. And they're invariably shocked to realize that it doesn't work that way.The human being is not a machine. He is a member of a group. And groups are naturally exclusive. Gangs are the group at its most primitive. Feral packs of young males on the prowl. And above the gang is the tribe, the community from which the group comes. Above the tribe is the nation.Multiculturalism leaves the nation part vague and strengthens the tribe. And the tribe naturally leads to the gang. The multicultural vision insists that populations can be defined by political identities regardless of their culture, race and ethnicity. And that is clearly not so. Nor can cultures be stripped of all their politically disapproved elements to create a harmonious multicultural paradise. The answer lies in stopping immigration of people who refuse to be part of the mainstream but insist on a carry over of the cuture back home they have left for ever.

It led the CAG to conclude that the process was tailored in HT-Hungama's favour. The contract for production and broadcasting of commercials was given to two news channels, CNN-IBN and NDTV. The CAG said the OC followed an arbitrary approach with no planning for specific channels, time slots and cost benefit analysis.
The OC considered proposals in an adhoc manner and as and when they were received. Full story in: http://t.co/dAw8syl

Syrian President Assad comes from the Alawite religious minority which, though considered a sect of Shiite Islam, bears little resemblance to Islam in doctrine or practice. They are considered to be worse than kafir(infidels) and are persecuted by the Sunnis who form the majority in the Muslim world.Alawites consider themselves Muslim, though they incorporate tenets that fall outside orthodox Islam. Foremost among these is a belief that Ali, the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, was an incarnation of the deity and that praying in the name of Ali is the only way to communicate with Allah. Many members of the ruling political party of Syria are Alawites, including President Bashar al-Assad. Alawites also live in parts of Turkey and Lebanon.

Anna Hazares message to the Nation for 15th and 16th August.
My Dear Fellow Indians,
A decisive battle against corruption has begun. We are not against any political party. We want systemic reforms. We want a corruption-free India. After all, what are the people asking for – a strong anti-corruption law which provides for honest and time-bound investigations and trials that result in jail for the guilty, confiscation of embezzled money and their dismissal from service? Are we asking too much? For two months, we were talking to the government. Government seems unwilling to take even small steps against corruption. Government appears insincere. We have met all prominent political leaders. We have tried everything. What do we do now? When I announced my indefinite fast from 16th August, the government threatened that they would crush us the way they crushed Baba Ramdev's peaceful agitation. Friends, this is a historic opportunity. We can't afford to lose it. We are determined to fight to the end. If they arrest us, we will peacefully offer ourselves. If they use batons and bullets, we will happily lay down our lives but will not leave the place. We will not retaliate. It will be a completely non-violent movement. “If you fast on 16th August, you will be crushed” – this is what they are saying. “We will impose section 144 on Jantar Mantar” – this is what they are thinking. But I say that if every citizen in this country takes off from his work from 16th August, comes on the streets in front of his house, at the crossing, with a tricolor in his hands shouting “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and raising slogans against corruption, they will fall short of batons and bullets. The government may arrest one Anna Hazare but how will they arrest 120 crore Anna Hazares? They may impose section 144 at one Jantar Mantar but will they impose section 144 on the whole country? And let me tell you – the police and army is with us. At traffic signals, policemen stop us, express their support and wish us well; at Raj Ghat, the policemen donated generously for the movement! So, will you take off from your work from 16 August? Will you descend on the streets with me? This year, the country will wait for 16th rather than 15th August. In solidarity,
thanks

“WHY GOVERNMENT'S LOKPAL IS DANGEROUS???”
Government's Lokpal is targeted against those who raise their voice against corruption rather than to punish the corrupt!
The government's Lokpal bill covers only about 0.5% of public servants, yet it brings under its ambit virtually every citizen's group and organization, registered or unregistered, meant to serve the social sector. This raises a pertinent question -- whom is the Lokpal really targeted at? There are more than 1.25 crore central and state government employees. Out of this merely 65,000 Group A Central Government employees would be covered in the government bill leaving out all the lower officers and staff. This effectively means that there is no remedy against corruption that a common person faces daily in police, roads, industry, licensing, transport, roadways, municipality, rations, health services, education, pension, provident funds, Panchayat, forest department, irrigation department, etc. On the other hand, Lokpal would have jurisdiction over ALL NGOs, trusts, societies like Resident Welfare Associations(RWAs), big or small, whether registered or unregistered, whether they receive government funding or not, up to the village level! For instance, consider a group of citizens that unearths corruption of the Sarpanch and Block Development... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/7251

Leftists have coined words like politically correct, Right wing reactionary elements, xenophobia, jingoism, conservatives, Nazis,Fascists et al to abuse those who didn't agree with them when Fabian Socialism was the flavour of the season when all our Communist leaders were studying in England with whom Nehru was greatly enamored and was highly influenced by.These words of abuse were pasted on Indian patriots who wanted the British rule to end in India.
As Nehru, the British surrogate like his progeny after him was convinced India was his personal property thrust his pet views down many of India's unwilling throats and continued to use these abusive name callings when confronting his nationalist detractors. To India's greatest misfortune of recent times Nehru became the first and longest-serving Prime Minister of India (1947–1964). He loved to be identified as a Progressive and Left leaning as his Communist friends and British mentors would admire for taking away the thrust from an India with its ancient but vibrant and original ethos.
Nehru's legatees to be found in academia who in turn have churned out photocopies of themselves, have infiltrated into our mass media apart from other trades and have come to occupy a large intellectual space among the chattering classes. Nehru's progeny and his political party today find this axis of British surrogates to be a great advantage to perpetuate their familial hegemony in a spurious election process of dynastic democracy, aided and abetted by Left leaning Liberals who have scant regard for those keen on a nationalist revival.
We never really got our Independence in 1947 even though the colonizers left our shores but had left behind a large phalanx of those wallowing in a bondage of colonization of the mind.As a parting kick our British masters had handed over power to their surrogates which is India's longest serving political party to successfully ensure that our true Independence never arrived.
Today, we have admirers of words like multiculturalism, a culture of the nowhere holding forth conveniently forgetting the fact that its original practitioners are turning to India for seeking answers from our own ancient and time tested ethos. Mouthing pluralism as a panacea to our social ills, our Liberals sometimes behaving like Libtards, turn a Nelson's eye to rampant conversion to alien faiths that strikes a direct blow at the very roots of pluralism.

Average is taken from the readings and a TV channel's popularity is arrived at. @Chellaney Tragicomedy: Sunni-ruled Bahrain, while continuing its brutal crackdown on Shiite majority, slams Alawite-ruled Syria's crackdown on Sunnis. Sunnis consider Alawites non-Muslims and Kafirs just as they do Shias. Now figure this riddle out how Religion of Peace operates where they are majority and what is likely to happen to civilised society if they turn blind eye to Sharia and its ill effects in other countries.

SHARIA COMPLIANT TIME'S MAGAZINE: SLAUGHTER AND SLANDER
Relentless liars. I didn't have time to fisk this latest trash from Time magazine -- so fast and furious are the slaves in the media advancing the sharia and whitewashing the mass slaughter, the honor killings, homicide bombings, gender apartheid, ethnic cleansing, Islamic Jew hatred, Ground Zero mosque of Islamic jihad. But Robert did:
Time Magazine defames and demonizes counter-jihadists
So what else is new? Is anyone doing anything else these days? Still, I think it important to answer as many as I can of these and show the truth. "When Slogans Beget Slaughter," by Ishaan Tharoor in Time Magazine, August 6 (thanks to all who sent this in):

'The riches belong to nobody, certainly not to our family'
The head of a former royal family renounced any personal claim to billions of dollars' worth of ancient treasure discovered in a temple in Thiruvananthapuram, the kingdom his ancestors once ruled.
Padma Rao Sundarji speaks to Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Verma, the former King of Tranvancore.
PRS: What is your family's connection with the Padmanabhaswamy temple?
Varma: We are the Cheras, one of the four erstwhile royal families of South India and have a long and dynastic family tree. By 1750 Travancore had become rich and big.
So my ancestor, the then king, made a unique spiritual and historical contribution. He decided to surrender all his riches to the temple - Padmanabhaswamy is also our family deity.
He said our family would look after that wealth, the temple and the kingdom forever. But he did want the ego that comes with possessing it.
He was influenced by Emperor Ashoka's catharsis in the killing fields of Kalinga. So he declared our family to be Padmanabha's 'dasas', devotees.
A servant can resign his job, but a dasa can do so only when he dies.
PRS: You are one of the wealthiest families in India and yet, you live in a spartan way, unlike many other ex-royals. Why?
Varma: I have to go back a bit in time, to explain why. Everybody thinks that we Indians first rose against British colonial rule in 1857. Wrong. In 1741, Travancore was the only Asian power to defeat the Dutch when they arrived here. After the battle, all the Dutch soldiers kneeled before my ancestors.
One Dutchman, Benedictus Eustachius, even joined our army. We called him the Great Kapitan. Later, I learned that he was [US president] Franklin Roosevelt's ancestor when the latter's grandson came to look at our historical records.
Then in 1839, almost two decades before the mutiny, we rose against the British. Our punishment was severe. They disbanded our police and army of 50,000, transferred our capital to Kollam, dumped two British regiments on us, and ordered us to pay for their upkeep.
Thomas Munroe named himself Diwan of Travancore. When our spirit still did not flag, they brought in missionaries. But we did not get gobbled up by Western thought.
We travel abroad occasionally, but it has not affected or changed our simple way of life. Why am I telling you this? So that you get an idea of how much our life has revolved around our faith, despite so many outside influences and kept us going.
PRS: How do you feel about what is happening around the temple right now - its cellars being opened up, your donations being discussed around the world, the criticism, the furore?
Varma: Sorry, I cannot comment on what is happening there - the matter is sub-judice. But this much I will say. I have no problem with the inventory and additional security being provided by the state to the temple.
But please don't remove those objects from the temple. They belong to nobody, certainly not to our family. They belong to god and our law permits that.
All these debates swirling around the riches is unfortunate. That's all I can say - I have to listen to my doctor, lawyer and auditor. Our family has been donating objects to the temple for centuries.
As chief patron of the temple, I go there every day. If I miss a day, I am fined Rs 166.35 - an old Travancore tradition
PRS: But you cannot deny that such wealth could be put to better use for the poor.
Varma: We Indians are more educated now. But this reaction to donations inside a temple is anything but progressive. We are slowly losing our Indian identity.
Money has become everything. But I am not surprised. I would rather be philosophical than disillusioned because I... <<<<<< N.B from Jumbotweet: auto-truncated at 4K characters on index page - Click here or on the "view" link to see entire jumbotweet! http://www.jumbotweet.com/ltweets/view/7090
@taslimanasreen Hindus are normal humans with normal faults.Hinduism doesn't create divisions among people on religious lines, concept of active Jihad, have system of #Fatwa by #Mullahs(sometimes obtained by payment),killing of non-believers,having 4 wives simultaneously thus increasing family tensions, putting women behind #burqa, treating women as half of a man,no instant #talaq system, the deleterious #Sharia that dictates barbaric practices of #medieval times. I could go on and on.But suffice it to say that it would be no different than now as India is an undeclared #Hindu #Rashtra because of which it is secular and all minorities enjoy equal status because India is Hindu majority. Look at Pakistan and Bangladesh which were once part of this secular #Hindu #Rashtra where secularism became the first casualty the moment they became #Muslim majority countries because #secularism and #Islam are anathema to each other as per Islam's own tenets of there being only one god and that is #Allah and all other gods being false.Proof also that #Indian #Muslims are far better off in all respects than their brethren in #Pakistan and #Bangladesh. If the majority of Muslims agreed to an #Uniform #Civil #Code this country and they would be much better off then they are now.But no political party is going to tell them so nor any Mullah agree as their vision is limited by the twin blinkers of #Koran and #Sharia. Fortunately, you are an atheist who was born in a Muslim family in #Mymensigh for which you are persecuted by your own community and you would like to settle down in Kolkata,India permanently where your mother tongue is spoken. But no Indian government is going to allow you to do so as the Mullahs will oppose it and every political party appeases them for the wholesale Muslim votes
