There are some factual inaccuracies in the Daily Mail article* on Joe McElderry printed on 12 Aug 2011, caused by Joe misleading the reporter – here are the real facts about these:
(1) Joe ‘had a romantic liaison with a boy at college’: Joe has never admitted he had a gay affair but he did tell the barefaced lie that the person involved was a fellow college student. Remember he assured the Sun and Star on 15 Dec 2009 that he was straight – this was a strategy Joe sat down and planned with his PR people, to counter rumours that he was gay, which he perceived as potentially damaging to his attempt to build on his predominantly young female fanbase. So for Joe to admit in July 2010 that he had a gay affair in July 2009 would expose him as a liar, which like many compulsive liars he could not accept. The way round this – again, carefully planned by Joe with his PR people – was to state in July 2010 that his affair had been nothing more than ‘a peck of a kiss while at college’ which he thought no more about. Of course this was all lies: it was a sustained gay fling with a fan who never attended his college. Full story here: http://t.co/D4xRs3a
(2) Joe ‘doesn't seem to mind that someone hacked into his Twitter account to break the news’: not surprising as it this was almost certainly part of the campaign of deception Joe worked out, using his PR people to work it into the pages of the press: even Joe himself admits that most people think he hacked his own tweet.
(3) Syco’s ‘strategy had been to reinvent Joe as a disco hero’: unfortunately, this is Joe here reinventing his own life, as he has been doing ever since pretending to be straight in December 2009. Joe has consistently said up until now that it was he who took the new direction of Ambitions, after Syco planned originally to give him more ballad-like music.
(4) Universal ‘signed Joe up straight away’ after seeing him win Popstar to Operastar: in fact, Joe had been in talks with Universal company @DeccaRecords BEFORE the final and it looks increasingly like the deal was arranged long before the series began, making it a cynical fix. Full story here (and watch this space for an update due shortly): http://t.co/x5viRNx
(5) Joe ‘dropped the management company, Modest, they had set in place for him so he could start afresh with a new, hands-on manager’: two independent witnesses have today reported that Joe’s radio tour last week was being organised for him by the same managers, from Modest Management.
(6) Joe says ‘I'm an honest person, but for a long time I really didn't know how I felt’: both barefaced lies of course. Joe knew perfectly well how he felt when he was visiting gay bars and having a gay affair in July 2009. As for being ‘honest’: well, look at the lies above and here’s a list of 13 of his biggest lies from 2010: http://jmb.tw/3t8s.
