@greglaurie Hi Pastor Greg new in-depth Marshall Terrill interview; How military brat got hooked on razor sharp mystique of quintessential Hollywood outsider #SteveMcQueen https://goo.gl/rdtr1c
@samanthalock many thanks for tweeting pic; on his MySpace page, it says photo is from "Model Shop;" but if you notice his hairstyle, it is different; in 1969's Model Shop, it was longer and combed forward; also, he wore navy blue short sleeve shirts; not long sleeve; so I say the photo is several years earlier, circa 1965
@CeeCee4CB wow, please do; once again, you alerted me about something I didn't know -- what Clint's business partner did to him; didn't mean to keep you up tonight; I asked about Bill Anderson & songwriter Bob DiPiero because I saw on Facebook where Clint said he had just recorded a song they had all written;
Another thing you might know -- concerning song titles on upcoming album, think "Breathing Air" is one; don't think Clint has given a title on Anderson/DiPiero/Black composition yet; if you have any additional titles, I'll put them in article
@CeeCee4CB in introduction, gonna take Clint to task a little bit for staying on auto pilot in regards to his recording career; he was getting dangerously close to becoming irrelevant & an oldies act who was best known to younger generations for his role on Celebrity Apprentice; if his update on Facebook is true about a new album coming out soon, hopefully I will be proved wrong; but no new studio album of new songs since 2005 makes me think he lost his songwriting muse for awhile
B.J., many thanks for the help last night; here is the complete question; go to the final paragraph below; as for those fairly recent recordings with Mark, do you recall any titles?
How did you meet Mark James?
Mark was a fellow musician of mine. He played the guitar and sang in another band during the time I was in Houston, before I had any hits. We were buddies. Steve Tyrell was another friend of ours.
Steve had gotten a job as a promotion man with Scepter Records, and he influenced Mark to move up to Memphis and start writing songs. By then I had had a few hits, including “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” “Mama,” and “Billy and Sue.”
Around 1967 Mark called me and said, “Hey, B.J., they’re really recording a lot of hit records up here at American Studio. They’ve got a lot of great writers in their stable. I’m writing songs, too, so why don’t you move up here? I think you could cut a bunch of hit records if you did.” I replied, “Hey, I’d love to.” So my brother and I packed our stuff and moved to Memphis.
I think I recorded more of his songs than any other artist. I have a lot of his songs on my albums that weren’t hit singles.
To single out a few, “Living Again” [B-side of “Everybody’s Out of Town,” on Young and in Love, 1969], “Mr. Mailman” [Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, 1969], “I've Been Alone Too Long” [Songs, 1973], and “Man to Conquer All” [Back Against the Wall, 1992] are a few of my favorites [Author’s Note: “Pass the Apple Eve” from 1969’s Young and in Love is also noteworthy, featuring an impassioned vocal, Reggie Young’s driving sitar, and a tight rhythm section].
Of course, Mark’s biggest record, “Suspicious Minds,” was recorded by Elvis [Author’s Note: Thomas recorded a similar version, retaining Chips Moman and the Memphis Boys. It also appears on Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head]. It certainly made his name.
About five or six years ago I went in the studio and cut a few things that he wrote. We haven’t really had any success lately, record-wise. In fact, I think Mark has more or less gone into writing film scores, and I’m not sure he’s really writing pop stuff anymore. Regardless, Mark’s a great guy and an amazing songwriter.
Hi Larry, it would be amazing if you could interview author Marshall Terrill on your show. He is the definitive expert on actor Steve McQueen, & he has 2 McQueen books out this year, including a new 600 page one that comes out in November.
November 7th will be the 30th anniversary of McQueen's passing, & today McQueen would have been 80 years old.
Terrill has the cooperation of Steve's family & his widow, Barbara McQueen, & he has also written books on Elvis & basketball legend Pete Maravich.
I recently conducted an interview with Terrill that I will post below for your staff to check out. The author lives in Arizona.
Wish you weren't leaving Larry King Live, & I especially enjoyed your interview last night with Jimmy Fallon. Should be another great show tonight with Harry Connick, Jr. All the best & sincerely,
@floridatheatre Hi, I'm a Pop Culture Writer for The Examiner, & a recent graduate of the University of Georgia with a Masters in Agricultural Leadership. Feel free to visit my writer's page by clicking here:
I would like to write an article on the Florida Theatre, its history, & its excellence in bringing a variety of musical acts to folks in South GA & Florida throughout the year. This could be a multi-part piece.
I live about 2.5 hours north of Jacksonville, & the Florida Theatre is my lifeline to enjoying great music.
I plan on attending Tuesday's show featuring The Happy Together Tour. It would be a pleasure to also write about the show & each performer. Haven't got a ticket yet, but it would be only myself attending.
In addition, concert photos are a necessity. Is there a way I could be close to the stage during the concert?
I'm not sure exactly who to send this to, & I would appreciate you forwarding my query to the correct individual. Or, please give me a name, & I would be happy to proceed from there.
Ultimately, it is my intention to be able to attend a handful of shows @ The Theatre each year & provide a running commentary on each artist/group represented there. I can also write promotional articles in advance of an artist appearing in order to boost ticket sales. I look forward to hearing from you & sincerely,
Jeremy Roberts
National/Local Pop Culture Examiner
Jimmy, thanks for bringing Robbie Dupree to the show as well as your spot-on Michael McDonald impression. I was afraid the audience would laugh too much & interrupt the song.
I had always heard "Steal Away," but I never knew who sang it; now I've purchased the song. It's cool that you give artists who are likely forgotten by younger folks & the media another break. Keep up the good work, & I appreciate you re-introducing me to more good music,

1st P.S. Rolling Stones Week was amazing! I got to meet & talk with Chuck Leavell this year as well as see Taj Mahal live, & they're like a fine vintage wine. Mick, Keith, & Charlie, not bad at all, either. I'm keeping these shows for posterity. It was a shame that Keith wouldn't play while Dr. John was there, since Dr. John did some vocals on EXILE
P.S. Wish you could locate Bobbie Gentry, who had a huge hit with 1967's "Ode To Billie Joe;" she dropped out of sight around 1979
Some other retro acts who might be good fits on the show [& I'm also working on iTunes playlists for them]:
1. The Beach Boys
2. Brian Wilson
3. Solomon Burke (Rolling Stones covered his "Cry To Me" & "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love")
4. Mark Lindsay (lead singer of Paul Revere & The Raiders)
5. Try to reunite The Monkees, or try to get them individually [Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, & Davy Jones are all touring this year)
6. See if Sly Stone could be booked on show (he's erratic I know)
7. Jerry Lee Lewis while he's still here (viewers would tune in & media would cover imo)
8. See if Cat Mother could reunite & perform (Jimi Hendrix produced their debut LP in 1969)
9. David Allan Coe (outlaw country artist in the '70s)
10. Dwight Yoakam (not that old, I know)
11. Larry Gatlin (country songwriter; big in the '70s; just wrote a song called "Johnny Cash Is Dead (And His House Burned Down); was indeed friends with Cash
12. REO Speedwagon (were excellent in the '70s before they became famous; just got into their early stuff)
14. Wynonna Judd (one of the best female all-around genre defying voices out there today; will tour & get big business later this year with the reunited THE JUDDS)
15. Garland Jeffreys (heard his '70s rocker "Wild In The Streets" on "Life On Mars" tv show last year; lives in New York if I'm not mistaken)
16. Glen Campbell
17. Merle Haggard
18. Creed Bratton of THE OFFICE has just released a new album; see if he would perform; was a member of THE GRASS ROOTS, popular late '60s/early '70s folk/rock band but you may know this)
19. Al Green
20. Finally, this brand-new artist from Atlanta was on Letterman this week; discovered her then, & she's amazing, almost a female version of James Brown; her name is Janelle Monae, a protege of Diddy

I'm looking forward to seeing you this Saturday in concert in Valdosta, GA. It will be my 1st time. I still remember riding with my mom when I was little, listening to you sing that classic line, "oh grandpa, tell me 'bout the good 'ol days."
What is the protocol for conducting an interview with you to promote your latest LP as well as your upcoming stop in Valdosta?
I'm the National Pop Culture Examiner, an umbrella term really for classic tv, concerts, music, from Elvis to the Beatles, soul, vintage country, r&b, & gospel, or a good autobiography that I want to tell folks about.
I will appreciate whatever your decision might be. If yes, I can email you questions that you could choose from or via phone, it's your call.
Finally, thanks for keeping Elvis alive with Burning Love, Lilo & Stitch, & the Nashville Salutes Elvis at the Ryman about 2 years ago. Best wishes,
Hi, my name is Jeremy Roberts. It's raining an awfully lot in South GA right now, & I hope you're doing well, too. I recently graduated from UGA.

If you decided to grant me an interview, I would also try to run it in our local newspaper, post it on Twitter, your official website, & Facebook.

Ray Price was on Marty Stuart's tv show a few weeks ago, singing 1966's "A Way To Survive:" at 83, Ray still gave me goosebumps with that outstanding performance, especially where he held that note during the line "I must cling to what's gone, if I'm to go on"

Hi, My name's Jeremy Roberts, & I live in Alapaha. I posted the pics of REO Speedwagon & Styx on Facebook. Is it possible to create a folder for them?
I have one other question: I have pics from about 30 shows at Wild Adventures going back to 2006. Would Wild Adventures be interested in obtaining any of these?
As for the present, does the park have an official concert photographer? I would appreciate any info you have, or if there's someone I could talk with, please let me know if that's ok.
Wild Adventures is a god-send for South GA folks wishing to see live, mainstream shows. Sincerely & 'til next time,
I'm sorry you got eliminated from American Idol so soon. You would have knocked the socks off everyone if you could have performed one of John Lennon & Paul McCartney's songs this week on the show.
Back a few months ago I found you on Facebook before all the American Idol hoopla began. I've had the opportunity to write several articles about you, including my 1st one on you singing Hey Jude back in January.
Here's my latest. I hope you like it. Don't feel embarassed or shy about your guitar playing. You're good, end of story. I know that's easier said than done sometimes. I'm always waging a war with my nerves.
Guess you're gonna be on Letterman's show. Don't know if you know this, but several of his bandmembers are in a Beatles tribute band, including bassist Will Lee. Paul Shaffer (Dave's band leader) & the Late Show band are always doing Beatles songs, too.
I think you'd kick butt performing a Beatles song, maybe Hey Jude, or the one you would have performed this week if you hadn't been voted off.
Letterman acts kind of stand-offish & aloof sometimes, but I think he's gonna like you, because he respects artists who are original & dedicated to their craft.
I know I'm offering backseat advice, so get too irritated with me. You'll do good no matter what you sing. Again, please consider playing guitar & doing a Beatles song with Letterman's band, & I'll leave it at that.
Take care of yourself & hope you had a Happy Easter,
@MarkLindsay Mark, today on Elvis Radio, Jerry Williams, who George Klein said managed the Raiders, told a story about Paul R. recommending Alex to be the lead singer of The Box Tops.
Wish you'd call in & chat with George on today's show about the Raiders' new 2-cd set, Alex Chilton, Elvis, & what you're up to. It concludes tonight at 7:00 PM Eastern. 1-888-ELVIS-NOW. George or GK, does his show on the fly, so they don't mind if you call. Take care, & hope I can see you live finally one day,
I'm looking forward to seeing George for the 1st time Sat. in Valdosta; been to venue many times, & I hope to write about show.
For the past few days I've been using iTunes to create a playlist of all George's hit Billboard songs along with audience & critical favs, a little over 40 songs total.
I'll send article to you when finished; I can also add pics here if u like, & I'll be on the front row.
Does George ever take requests? Would love to see Los Lonely Boys help him out on some songs or vice versa.....
Craig, I just found this JumboTweet thing where I don't have to condense my words into 140 characters.
I really enjoyed your sitdown with Stephen Fry. I didn't even know who he was, but I do now. Hope you can continue this experiment, perhaps devote a full week to it or maybe once or twice a month.
Yes, it was different without the audience, especially during the opening monologue & 1st few minutes of the interview, but I found it refreshing. Glad to see that I didn't have to be prompted as to when to laugh.
You said you were nervous at the beginning, but I didn't detect that. I enjoy hearing & seeing your serious side. I think the audience brings out all the wackiness, but that's good, too.
In short, seeing the show tonight gave me a lot of food for thought & enjoyment. Several of these moments included the alien looking down at our culture, trolls & the current trend of folks putting down celebrities or anyone when they don't have to reveal their identity on a messageboard, U.S. & UK differences, that 1991 guest spot, & how you really feel at home in America.
Also, thanks for throwing in those little historical facts here & there. Ben Franklin's "join or die" comes to mind.
Perhaps one day I'll run into you. I think we could have a good, long conversation. If I do an article about tonight's show, I'll post the link here on Twitter.
Just as I was about to sign off, I heard the comments about why people say things are worser today compared to the '70s, '60s. Ah, their youth.
Keep up the good work. You bring a lot of joy, humor, & occasional enlightenment to this viewer. 'Til next time,
