On the night of 13th Aug after 12 (14th), me along with my sister and 3 friends had visited All time cafe, Gurugram for a casual late night dinner. Before reaching there we had called up the restaurant to ensure they are open and we ordered food. After parking the car we saw a police vehicle. Police men told us to go away because the cafe was closed. I requested the police officer to allow me a moment so that I can call the restaurant and take the food home. The officer told me to show him the documents of the car. While I was showing it to him, another Policeman, Insp. Rahul (the guy in video, also SHO of sector 53 Gurugram) came out his car charging towards me and held my collar. He started hitting me but my sister and some other people separated him. His junior said "itne izatdaar aadmi bol rahe hain tujhe jaane ko samaj nai aa raha tujhe". Insp Rahul, respect is earned not commanded.
When he attacked me I immediately started shouting that we should all record this on video. Rahul then got really agitated and while charging towards me again with even greater force he said "video post karega tu? Tere khilaaf aise case banauga ki tu rota rahega zindagi bhar". Insp Rahul, your nervousness was pretty visible when you tried to snatch my phone while being recorded.
Insp Rahul was well aware that I was not wrong and I had not committed any crime. He also said that he will call lady police as well so that they can arrest the girls.
All this while I only asked him what is the crime that I committed and he did not have an answer.
After about half an hour when the situation was calm, they called me and said that if I don't write an apology and delete the video from my phone, they won't let us go from there. Another police man took my phone and deleted the video from the camera roll as well as recently deleted items. I was quick enough to make a backup of it.
If they did not do anything wrong why did they want the video to be deleted so desperately?
The restaurant's owner was also present there at the time of deleting the video. Rahul pointed towards him and told me "ye bhi tere khilaaf hi gawahi dega agar maine case bana dia tujh par" for which the cafe owner had to say yes.
While I was writing the letter one of the police man was staring at my friend and said to her "madam aapne kapde kaise pehne hain".
Firstly my friend was dressed appropriately. Secondly, no one has the right to tell her what to wear.
I was deeply embarrassed while I was writing that apology but I had no other option because I wanted the girls safe.
In short, a group of responsible citizens went out for dinner without breaking any rule and were assaulted by people who are supposed to keep us safe.
The next night we all were again planning to go out but my friends were scared. Scared of the the policemen, not the goons. Is that how police should make the citizens feel?
We demand justice!
