My train, no.12621, got delayed today by 10.5 hours from its source station, and I was given no prior information through SMS on this, had a reservation from MAS to Warangal, (PNR 4743798936). As I got to know this only once I reached MAS station, at 9:30 PM. I planned to take a train to Bangalore and then go to Hyderabad by road from there.
I had no choice other than getting a general ticket and boarding the train expecting that the TTE to allow me to at least stand near the toilets in sleeper class, had a word with him and he did not allow, asking some 400 rupees for the standard charges, which I do not think should be levied just for standing out there. I know there is some rule to deter people to enter sleeper class, but it should be dealt with some humanitarian way. Also I was told he could arrange something for me in AC class. Obviously, when you cannot arrange in 12 sleeper bogies, how there can be a space in AC class, story leading to bribing him once I get in. So I decided to any way enter the general class, also called cattle class, and any way manage without paying bribe to the TTE.
After standing at the wash basin for 2 hours I realised, I could not bear the crushing environment and stepped out to try my luck in next coach S1, and was pushed out by the attendant citing I have to have a reservation first. When my request failed, I tried to fight back and now he calls a RPF inspector who is teaching me the rules and regulations. The stop at this station is only for 2 minutes, and I cannot afford to leave the train, hence worked my way back to the general compartment.
Wanted to update you and the nation that nothing has changed, except that I am able to write to you on this, as tech has come to help.
I am 45 years old, and had paid 47K of income tax this month through my Salary. And i have asthma. Do not have enough cash to travel by bus due to sudden delay, which could have been averted by just an SMS.
I am on train no. 12657, mid way now moving towards Bangaluru, have a valid ticket, (no. 301936427) and am feeling ashamed of the way I was treated by the attendant and RPF, am ready to pay the fare difference for just standing overnight in a sleeper coach, but am not able to.
Is this the way a tax paying citizen should be treated? Can you do something about it NOW?
