A Wayne State University police officer was shot in the head. He later died. God be with him and his family.
Unfortunately, there won’t be any marches declaring, “Blue Lives Matter.” But blue, black, white, brown and yellow lives—all matter.
Every week, we’re reminded there are bad or rogue police officers. You can’t deny that, and the rogue cops need to be charged with crimes and subjected to capital punishment when appropriate. But rogue cops aren’t the majority of police officers.
Martha and the Vandellas, that great Motown group, has a track on their greatest hits collection called, “Love Makes Me Do Foolish Things.” It kinda reminds you of efforts by some people to make the police the enemy.
In light of recent police shootings, some people have allowed their anger to get the best of them. They haven’t thought out the consequences of making the police the enemy. They also haven’t thought about who benefits if they make the police the enemy. When emotions are not tempered by common sense, it makes people do foolish things.
Outside of the Middle East, our communities, black communities, are some of the most violent in the world. To keep it even more real, if there’s any community that needs to work with the police, it should be our community. But some of us have allowed the rhetoric of hustlers, criminals, poverty pimps, and professional malcontents to make us see the police as the enemy.
Crooks and rogue cops are the real enemy. But not all police officers are the rogues nor ar they the enemy.
The only people, who want to make the police the enemy, and who would benefit, are crooks. Crooks have already convinced too many people not to snitch or that snitching is a bad thing. Crooks want you to see the police as the enemy. They may be thugs, but they “ain’t” stupid. But we’re stupid if we fall for the hype and make the police the enemy.
If people refuse to snitch on thugs, and if they make the police the enemy, that would be a slam dunk for every thug, carjacker, mugger, rapist out there. Then, criminals would be free to conduct all kinds of illegal activity in our communities, because they would have convinced the people in the community not to snitch and to see the police as the enemy instead of them.
Every time you think about making the police the enemy, just watch your local news. That’ll remind you, it’s crooks who are the real enemy.
