- #misleading #disappointed Women's weekly has recently published an article claiming schools are failing working mother's. They make it sound as though an adjusted start to school life is a personal attack. Prep tends to start school with adjusted hours because it is what is in the best interests of the children. Adjusting to school life at the age of 4 or 5 is hard. It can be exhausting. It can be overwhelming. We do it because it helps your kid be at their best. It helps them enjoy the start of their educational journey. It is not because we want to make life difficult for mums. We love and respect our mums, working or not! We don't 'expect' them to be available for events, but like to give the opportunity to those who can contribute. We don't condemn those who aren't free within school hours! Many, many teachers are also working mums! We get it! I personally missed my children's first days of school. I was making yours feel comfortable, safe and loved, while desperately hoping my son was feeling those things in their classes. I know it can be difficult to make arrangements for those part days. And pupil free days. We have to find places to put our kids too. It can be hard. But it's for THEM. That's why we are here. Many of these children coming to Prep were already in care before starting school, but it can still be hard to find places. It can still be hard to adjust to school . I had several parents contact me because they had work commitments. I watched their kids while I kept working in the afternoon. Less work than I had hoped to get through, for sure. But I'm not here to make life difficult. I help where I reasonably can. Not a big deal. A bit sad that women's weekly could publish something so misleading. Working mums: we are NOT trying to neglect, disrespect or 'fail' you, as this article declares. We respect you, we are just like you and are in the exact same category as you. Afterall, it's because of you that we can inspire our children to dream and then achieve. We're all in this together. For the KIDS.
