@xel0x Hi Jorian,

Sorry for the delay in response.

We cannot advise you on what to do with regards to your insurance. But we can present you with your options. And these come in two stages.

First and foremost, the car does need to be insured, as we’re sure you’re aware.

So, stage one is the test drive and – assuming you’re happy and buy the car – the drive home. You could take out temporary insurance for a day, and have your friend as a named driver, as you say. However, you may find that having yourself on the policy is surplus to requirements at this stage, if you’re not actually going to drive it. If it’s only your friend that’s driving at this stage, then you may find it better for your purposes that he takes out temporary insurance on the car in his name. Then he can test drive it and – if you buy – drive it to your home.

Stage two: Assuming you buy the car, then you obviously need to insure yourself. It’s worth mentioning that the vehicle should be insured by someone at all times – even if it’s just parked up.

You can either take out a full insurance policy where you’re the policyholder and the main driver. Obviously you need to drive with someone who’s over 21 and has had a full licence for over three years present. Or, if your friend is going to be your regular supervisor, you may find it’s worthwhile to add him as a named driver to your policy. This will also give him the option of being the driver himself, if the situation arises.

Hope this helps! ^OC
