(1) US backs Saudi adventurism. It is not surprising that Houthis consider US to be a co-belligerent of Saudi Arabia.

(2) Saudis want US to be more deeply involved in their war, which they portray as a struggle against global terrorism (it's not) or a fight against Iranian expansion (not really).

(3) Conflict escalation spiral occurring right now with naval clashes.
