Top football jobs vacant at Colbert County, Deshler High School in Alabama
Two prominent Shoals-area football programs are looking for new head coaches.
Dale Jeffreys announced his retirement at Colbert County High and Mike Hand stepped down at Deshler. Both are effective immediately.
Jeffreys, who has been in coaching for 31 years, guided Colbert County to a 9-3 record this season. The Indians’ season ended last Friday with a loss to defending Class 3A champion Piedmont.
Jeffreys spent 20 years as a head coach — 15 at Red Bay and the past five at Colbert County, his alma mater.
Hand spent two seasons as head coach at Deshler. The Tigers were 5-6 in 2015, but slipped to 2-8 this season. He took over after the Tigers advanced to the 2014 Class 4A championship game in a season marred by the death of first-year coach Jake Linville. Before that, he was the offensive line coach at Florence High School.
