#TodayInHistory: October 12, 1886 – Jose Rizal sent his brother Paciano a Tagalog translation of Wilhelm Tell, it was about a folk hero and expert marksman who assassinated the tyrannical Gessler. In the same letter, Jose wrote about his wish to introduce a slight modification of the Tagalog orthography and shared how much it would cost to print Noli Me Tangere (Touch me Not). The novel is credited with the awakening of nationalism among the Filipinos of Rizal's time.
