ThinkProgress is reporting there is now an internal investigation into the FBI's Twitter account @FBIRecordsVault. The account, which had been dormant for more than a year, tweeted a flood of documents Sunday, and then on Tuesday tweeted documents related to the William J. Clinton Foundation and the investigation into the pardon of Marc Rich. At the time, the FBI said the materials were made available under "standard procedure for FOIA" and were automatically posted. The timing of the tweet did raise eyebrows, as FBI Director James Comey was being criticized for announcing so close to Election Day that agency was reviewing emails that could be relevant to the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private server use. Federal law and FBI policy prohibit employees from using the power of the department to attempt to influence elections, ThinkProgress notes, and the Twitter account has not been active since Tuesday.
