The dreadful history of boxing was illustrated by the K. Douglas portrayal in the 1949 film “Champion” (see commentary). And this dark sport has gotten worse since then. Today, to make a filthy buck, promoters are putting women in the ring of shame, often to beat each other with padded gloves, other times to go at it bare-fisted, kicking and biting one another in “Ultimate Fighting” – while the sick crowds roar. Every participant in this outrage risks brain damage or other permanent injury. Isn’t it great to live in a country that makes it possible for women to get pulverized and degraded the same as men?
