Thank you Kingston!
It is with heartfelt appreciation that I am thrilled to report an incredibly successful Christmas season here at Partners in Mission Food Bank. We were overwhelmed by the level of support we received from the community in the weeks prior to the holidays, and even now we are scrambling to complete the final pick-ups.
We are confident in our estimation of a 30% increase in the amount of food donated from within the City of Kingston. Additionally, the monetary donations have once again enabled us to meet out budgetary needs for 2017.
This level of support couldn’t have come at a better time as we have just completed our busiest year ever, with just over 12,000 hampers distributed in 2016 representing 252,000 meals provided to 6,695 unique individuals. This reflects a 3% increase in service from 2015 assisting many new single people and government sponsored Syrian/Canadian families as well.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all of our Kingston neighbours who conducted food drives on our behalf and made financial contributions that give us the flexibility to buy the foods we need when they are needed, well below retail pricing.
Until a viable response to poverty is found, it is essential that our food bank is able to provide our less fortunate citizens with the dignity of acquiring food and preparing their own meals for their families. With the balanced hampers of fresh healthy foods and dry goods that we provide, they can continue to do that.
From all of us here at the Food Bank, thank you for your generosity and support.
