SNOW SHOWERS! 33°F 7:30AM Hey hey Giovanni here. Woke up to 7" of snow. Temperatures have been fluctuating above 33°F all night preventing any further snow accumulation below 2800ft. This is expected throughout the day as the cold front is to our east, winds have calmed and the barometer is recovering. Although the bulk of the moisture and best dynamics are to our east we may still see bands of heavy snow showers which could drop snow levels below 2000ft during the day, For the most part, we have seen the worst this storm has to deliver. The snow isn't likely to stick around long below 3000ft so enjoy what you have. It's still early in the season. The Sierra above 7000ft did receive 1-2ft of snow and may see another 6-8" more. Expect today's daytime highs in the upper 30s and overnight lows to drop into in the upper 20s.
*Currently chain controls are up from Colfax east on I80 and Hwy 20 is closed just before the 5 Mile house. Carry chains or drive an AWD vehicle. Check road conditions before heading out. Honestly just stay home. Who needs to drive in that icy mess?
Looks like a few snow showers will continue through Friday above 2500ft, but overall it looks like Turkey day won't be so bad for local travel as any new snow will be minimal. Kiss the snow goodbye this weekend as it looks to bring another strong, but warmer storm as it taps into a narrow Atmospheric River with only rain for us as snow levels climb above 5000ft on Sunday into possibly Tuesday.
The long range forecast wants to bring us more rain and Sierra snow sometime late next week, but details are sketchy at best.
