RAIN AND SNOW IS COMING! 59°F 10:30AM Hey hey Giovanni here. Beautiful and sunny today as the last warm and sunny weekend of November is here as huge changes arrive next week. Get out and enjoy it as high temperatures will range in the low 60s today with overnight lows mostly in the low 40s.
Everything looks on track. Our weather will rapidly switch from gorgeous and sunny to cold, rainy and snowy at times as our first winter storm of the season is poised to make a direct hit on the Sierra on Tuesday with snow showers lingering through Friday morning. This is a cold storm so expect snow levels to crash down to 2500ft, but possibly lower in the heavier showers by Tuesday night. This means heavy snow above 4000ft especially impacting communities in the upper foothills. Banner and Cascade Shores may see 1ft or more of snow. Farther north along the Cruzon grade, on the ridge, 1-3ft of snow looks very possible through Friday.
How much snow in town?
We will receive rain through Tuesday afternoon as the colder air filters inland and snow levels drop to 2500ft Tuesday night, but possibly lower in the heavier rain bands. Snow totals in town may exceed 3-6" through Thursday, but expect these numbers to change. Still lots of time between now and the storm. This winter storm looks to rage on into Wednesday with the Sierra receiving the brunt of the moisture and cold air before clearing out on Friday. Elevations above 6000ft may receive 3-4ft of snow in total if not more. Winds will be gusty at times especially along the Sierra crest. Expect winter driving conditions in the Sierra through Friday morning. Carry chains or drive an AWD vehicle. Expect long delays and slow downs Tuesday night into Thanksgiving day. Next weekend looks mostly sunny and dry. I'll keep updating as this forecast evolves.
The long range forecast doesn't show any significant follow up storms, but we will remain cooler. There's still lots of flip flopping with another cold storm possibly arriving the first week of December. More on that soon.
