RAIN AND SIERRA SNOW ON THE WAY! 53°F 6:30 AM Hey hey Giovanni here. The beautiful spring like weather we've been enjoying comes to an end today as High pressure breaks down as a deep trough parks offshore and brings us the best chance of rain and heavy Sierra snow we've seen since December. Clouds will arrive later today with rain and Sierra snow above 5000ft developing late tonight. Expect today's daytime highs in the mid 60s with overnight lows in the upper 30s.
Saturday looks really wet as a strong storm brings abrupt changes to our weather. Expect moderate to heavy rain in GV/NC and up to 2" of rain through Sunday morning. Snow levels will start out above 5000ft but may drop to 3500ft on Sunday. This storm is likely to bring the heaviest snow the Sierra has seen since December as a deep trough remains offshore through early next week. The Sierra may see 2-4ft of snow at resort level as this storm looks to aim directly at the northern Sierra, bringing in lots of moisture off the Pacific. Our weather gets really interesting on Sunday as the possibility for valley thunderstorms increases in the unstable cold air mass behind the initial cold front. This stormy wet weather pattern looks to remain with us through early next week as the trough will be slow to clear to our east. This is going to be super fun.
Long range forecast models are looking at more storminess the second half of March as the storm track dives into NorCal. This is looking amazing, but it won't be a miracle. We are way too far behind in precipitation for that. Any rain and snow will however be welcomed.
