PRESS STATEMENT: Hindraf Invitation to #DSAI | #Keadilan |
I refer to the invitation by the Human Rights Party (HRP) to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for a meeting at Padang Chetty, Klang on 22.4.12 on issues facing the Indian community.
We support the struggle and efforts of all political parties, NGOs and activists to bring justice to all communities and sections of Malaysian society. To this extent, we appreciate the efforts of HRP and other NGOs and activists in taking up economic and social issues relating to the Indian community.
The Indian community has been seriously neglected by the BN government and there are many problems peculiar to the community which require to be addressed systematically and comprehensively.
We, in Keadilan and Pakatan Rakyat, believe in the redress of grievances and upliftment of social and economic situation of every single community in this country. No one must be left behind. This is consistent with our stand as detailed in our Buku Jingga and Common Policy Framework.
We categorically reject the race-based policies and politics of the Barisan Nasional and believe in the distribution of wealth, aid and development according to need. However, it is inappropriate for these important matters to be resolved at a meeting in a public field as requested by HRP.
We also note that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not consulted on the date and venue of the event and that he has prior engagements on 22nd April 2012.Our doors have always been open to the general public and all those committed to the fight for justice in our country, and we are ever willing to accept representations from any party for the public good.
