POS Numbers That Can Reveal Someone Is Stealing Your Cash
Dishonest bartenders, servers and cashiers can be very adept at devising schemes to make extra money by confiscating their employer's cash.
One method involves collecting cash from customers and either not ringing up the transaction at all or ringing up a lesser amount on the register. The unrecorded cash often goes into the cash drawer but is eventually pulled out and into the employee's pocket.
An effective way to identify a thief is to track the hourly sales of every employee who handles cash. Employees who have consistently low sales per hour compared to your other employees may be stealing.
It's also good to regularly look at the amount of voids and over-rings per employee. Employees who consistently have an excessive number and dollar amount of voids and over-rings either need more training, can't handle the job or are, more likely, trying to steal.
Your POS system should be able to provide you with reports on this information.
