Maricopa County, Ariz., voters ousted Sheriff Joe Arpaio and elected Democratic challenger Paul Penzone, The Associated Press declared. Arpaio lost his bid for a seventh term as "America's Toughest Sheriff" to the retired Phoenix police sergeant. Arpaio was recently found to be in civil contempt of federal court for disobeying a judge's order to stop enforcing state immigration laws, The Republic Reports. He is also facing criminal contempt of court charges.
