Picotte (1865 - 1915) was the first Native American woman to become a physician in the US. She advocated for better health care for her people, the Omaha, and founded a reservation hospital in Walthill, NE in 1913 (hospital now on the National Historic Register). Picotte's greatest natural talent: her ability to communicate cross-culturally.In this, Picotte was ahead of her time, way ahead.
