Jesse Jackson, the elder.Jackson propelled himself into activist prominence in the backwash of the Martin Luther King assassination. He hired a public relations person, went on television with a bloody shirt, and claimed King “died in my arms.” In truth, he was not with the victim until after the shooting, when he mopped up blood with his hands. Since that shabby debut, he has wandered the nation looking for cameras and headlines, sticking his finger into diverse public pies as well as some women along the way. Not to say he is without accomplishment, he is nonetheless a has-been phony and overall misfit.
