Japan and South Korea have finally come to an accommodation regarding the former’s seizure of the latter’s daughters as “comfort women” during WW-II. The agreement includes an “apology” and Japan will contribute $8 million to the care of the 46 former sex slaves still alive. It’s a disgracefully overdue Tokyo concession, and, at best, hollow. Save the nuclear attacks, and its humiliating surrender, Japan has gotten away with much of the destruction it caused in the war. For example, no Jap soldier has ever been tried and penalized for raping the Korean women. Yes, it was a long time ago; that doesn’t make it any less difficult to accept.
