It’s likely there will be some sort of movement to make Mother Angelica a saint. It would be futile. She was a remarkable woman, but not in the same spirit as, say, St. Joan (of Arc) or St. Bernadette (of Lourdes). Plus, there are the odds against it. Many American Catholics have been nominated, but only 11 have achieved the rank. The most recent was Juniperro Serra, announced by Pope Frances last September. It was a controversial choice. Serra founded nine missions in California (1700s), but, under his watch, thousands of American Indians were beaten, or forced to become Catholics, etc. Like Angelica, he was no Bernadette.
