In 1942 a photographer took a picture of a gorgeous Michigan metal shop worker, wearing a polka dot bandana, that became the subject of a famous World War II “Rosie the Riveter” poster. That woman, Geraldine Hoff Doyle, died the other day at the age of 86. There were many such Rosies during the war, one of which was this writer’s mother, Rose Allen Tiede, who helped bolt parts for B-29s at a plant in Everett, Washington. There is today a Rosie The Riveter Memorial Park in Richmond, California. The ladies were wonderful beyond words.
