Dangal - my re-view

For the likes of Aamir Khan, ‘editing’ of his movies has always played a major part in success of the movies.. May it be ‘Sarfarosh’.. Or may it be ‘3 Idiots’. ‘Dangal’ is no exception to this. After watching so many senseless movies throughout the year – when you are fortunate enough to watch such a movie in houseful theatre – it gives your inner soul more satisfaction than the glass of chill water would give to you in scorching summer.
Dangal is all about Mahavir Singh Phogat, a hot-headed former wrestling national champion of India– whose wish to win at least a Gold representing India remains a wish due to family responsibilities. He then decides to achieve his dream through his son – however – gives up hope after he has four girls. One day, seeing the ‘wrestling’ spark in his two eldest daughters – Geeta & Babita – his long forgotten dream gets reignited and he then ‘mercilessly’ decides to train both of them to become top women wrestlers so that they could make India proud. The movie then unfolds the story of how Geeta achieves her father’s dream giving inspiration to Babita and many other girls as well. A mix of emotions, drama, comedy and action makes the movie one of the best display-of-art in recent times. Needless to say, Aamir Khan has been the focal point of the movie. His ‘weight-gain’ & ‘weight-loss’ has been in talks for a while now. Being Mr. Perfectionist – he has worked really hard on every minute detail of the movie. But, a big appreciation must go to actresses Zaira Wasim (Young Geeta), Suhani Bhatnagar (Young Babita), Fatima Sana Shaikh as Geeta and Sanya Malhotra as Babita. The perfect balance of emotion, action & laughter makes the movie a frame-to-frame perfect movie. The transverse of past & present makes the movie a sensible display of chain of events. Considering that this is the first movie of all the four female leads – director Nitesh Tiwari has successfully extracted what movie wanted from them.
The wrestling scenes at the Commonwealth Games of 2010 have been shown so intensely that you tend to get to the edge of your chair. On one had we have Hon’ble Supreme Court of India which has to mandate playing of National Anthem at the theatres at the start of the movie and command respect to it – and we have people full of patriotism after some breathtaking wresting scenes of Commonwealth Games, standing impromptu when the National Anthem is played after Geeta wins the Gold – such is the impact of the movie!
To sum up – one must say that ‘Dangal’ has definitely given due justice to the greatly inspiring success-story of Phogat family and given a value-for-money experience to the audience. A must watch for sure!
