For fan of Bughead & Varchie, I have another theory. This one is less Riverdale crazy & more drama based. Before I continue, this is not an attempt to excuse the kiss, that’s still a choice Betty & Archie make, but an attempt to explain the why & where we go from here. There is one thing that we’ve overlooked in the article. The article tells us what the fights are about, not what was said. We know that both Jughead & Veronica are in a vulnerable position at the time & we know that they were both uncomfortable with the fake dating between Archie & Betty. We also know that later in the episode, Jughead & Veronica feel the need to come back & apologize. I’m wondering if, during the argument, both Jughead & Veronica suggest that maybe Betty & Archie would be better off together. & then, in a moment when Betty & Archie are hurting, there is a moment of doubt, there is this moment where they wonder if that might not be true. And so they end up kissing. Again, the kiss is still wrong, but it’s less of a teenage drama cheat storyline, more a messy, real life situation in which there’s blame to go around. Of course, Betty & Archie are singing at the end, which I’m sure they want us to interpret as possible Barchie. But looking at what we know of the next three episodes, I don’t think that will be the case. We know there are Betty & Archie flashbacks in 4x18. And we know about Varchie content in 4x19 & Bughead in 4x20.
I think in 4x18, if this theory is correct, I think we will have Archie & Betty do the one thing that’s needed to be done since episode one, have a frank conversation about what they mean to each other. And I think the conclusion they will come to is that they’ll will always have special feelings for one another, but are happy with who they are with and don’t want that to change. I think the episode will end with Betty & Archie telling their significant others about the kiss.
I think the couples will still be together at the beginning of 4x19, but it’s obvious both couples have repairing to do in their relationship. And 4x19 focuses on the Varchie end of this & 4x20 focuses on the Bughead. Yes, it should take longer then an episode, but it's Riverdale.
