A message from TXMPA Board President – John Schrimpf

RE: Elimination of Film Incentives & the State Film / Music office

Senate & House Bills ( SB 99 – Hall, SB 244 – Burton & HB 779 – Shaheen)

To our valued TXMPA members and all others involved in the Texas Moving Image Incentive program:

Chill out! In the words of Aaron Rogers to Packer fans – “ Five letters for you; R – E – L – A – X “

I am very excited that our film, TV and video game community is worried about these proposed bills, but these same bills were submitted the last session. This has to do with certain legislators who would like to do away with ALL Incentive programs – thus, that’s why are are referring to it as a “Rebate Program” going forward.

The most successful Rebate Program going:

Tremendous ROI - $4.79 for every $1.00 of Texas money – that’s great return on investment!
A great job creator - over 86,000 jobs in the last 5 years!
Excellent for small Texas businesses - what the Governor wants to highlight this session.

Your excitement means energy and if we can direct it properly, it will help us with our goal of a better funded program.

Remember that the Legislature has not even begun yet and many bills are filed, that never see the light of day.

Please send a courteous email or handwritten note to your personal legislator; They really only pay attention to their constituents – so DON’T hammer the above bill authors, if you don’t live in their districts.

Here is a link to find your legislator. Please **NOTE** if you live in a district with a newly elected official, then the correct name will not show up on the link, until they have been officially sworn on January 10th.

TXMPA has been involved in educating various legislators’ office staffs. We have been selected by the Governor’s office and the State Film Commissioner to be the conduit to the many film workers in the state.

We are in weekly calls with the trusted Lobby firm, along with the MPAA (the studios, who are keen to keep Texas as one of their Top 10 States to shoot in) and in constant communication with ESA (who see Texas as top priority for video game companies and education).

Thank you for your concerns and please keep the energy levels up. We will need further actions once the 85th Legislative Session begins in a week.
