A CHANCE OF SNOW?! 54°F 7:00 AM Hey hey Giovanni here. Another warm day is here, but ready for some changes as high clouds blanket our sky ahead of a cold front which may bring us a wintry mix or snow flurries this weekend. Expect today's daytime highs in the upper 60s with overnight lows in the mid 40s.
High pressure offshore will weaken this weekend allowing a strong yet not very moist cold front drop south from Oregon on Saturday, bringing a much cooler air mass and a chance of rain and snow. Snow levels may as low as 2000ft and a wintry mix as low as 1500ft. Don't get too excited NC/GV may only see a light dusting with a wintry mix possible early Sunday in Penn Valley. The Sierra crest may receive 4-8" of snow before clearing arrives late Sunday. Dry and warmer weather is expected to return on Monday and continue through much of next week.
The long range forecast models are still wanting to bring us a good chance of rain and Sierra snow as early as next weekend. Details are unknown, as confidence is not high at this time on any specifics only that changes are coming. I'll have more details as they become available. Fingers crossed!
As you can see we need the snowpack to make a comeback. We have dropped below 50% of average in the Sierra for this time of the year and it's highly unlikely we will recover before the season ends.
